ENT appointment.... Lock Rss

So I took DD to the Ear nose and Throat Specialist and he says she does not have Glue ear which is great right... but he was a bit concerned that the left ear looked a little Dull???? what the hell is that supposed to mean???

She is now booked in for a Audiology test to check her hearing....

Can anyone shed some light on what the DULL bit might mean????

TIA

Hi! I have worked in a hearing clinic and my DH is an audiologist....he said that he hasn't really heard of the term "dull" but it may relate to when the ENT shone the otoscpoe in your DD's ear the light that is on it hits the middle ear and there should be a certain level of light reflection to ensure that the middle ear/tympanic membrane (part of the ear that separates the middle ear from the external ear) is functioning properly. And if he didn't get the level of light from when he shone it into your DD's ear he may have referred to it as a dull.

Not sure if this is right or not but hope it helps.

That is exactly what he was doing with The light in her ear...

Does this mean she could have a hearing problem if it is not functioning properly????

Anyone else have any ideas????

HI, sorry for not replying earlier (haven't had a chance to get on the computer!).

Checked with DH and he said that your DD may not have a hearing loss due to this but he said definately go and get her hearing checked.

If you are doing a lot of swimming etc and she is getting infections you can get custom made ear plugs to fit her ears so she doesn't get water in to cause infections etc as well (our hearing clinic used to do these, so when you get the hearing test done maybe ask about these).

HTH......and good luck
