Perforated ear drum in 2 yr old. Lock Rss

The Dr's suspect my DD nearly 2 may have a perforated ear drum, there is so much wax and stuff in her ears they can't be certain but considering the pain she's in they suspect she has. If it is this is the 2nd time it has happened in the same ear to sad What are the chances of her hearing being affected?? The Dr's are worried it may be.

ask for a referal to an ENT, only they are qualified to assist with perferations, etc. The GP should have prescribed AB's for an ear infection.
When my sons perferation occured, it was when the great glob of wax was removed, it was the only thing stopping the perferation. His ear bled etc, but shortly after, he was barely in pain cause the pressure build up had stopped.
An ear infection could be behind the wax, which is why your child is in pain?

Yeah we have been refered to an ENT but as I don't have private cover the DR at the hospital said it could be a years wait sad She is on AB'S now, the Dr said there was some blood, heaps of fluid and heaps of wax but there was no redness just buldging. We were also prescribed ear dops, is it safe to use them while there is a perferation??
the only time we used drops was after he had his grommets put in.
We saw our ENT the day he perferated and he just gave me new script, but not ear drops.
poor little munchkin, ear aches are a pain in the rear, we had like 12 in less than a year, as well as tonsilitis sad

We are going through the same thing that you are atm with our 8 month old son. He started childcare 2 months ago and has been sick most of that time. His right ear perforated about 3 weeks ago and the left perforated on Monday night. They are both still leaking pus and we have been to our ENT specialist who prescribed antibiotics & ear drops. Most GP's are against ear drops being put in the ear if there is a peforation but the ENT people seem to think the drops should be put in to help prevent any further spread of the infection. It cost $120 ($60 back from medicare) for a consult with the ENT spec that we see so if you can afford to pay that it would be worth seeing them privately. We have been told that their hearing is only effected if the infections & perforations keep occuring.
