Crying to sleep Lock Rss

My partner wants our 4month old to go to sleep on her own. He puts he on our bed and leaves her lying up on a pillow and then he just lies at the end of the bed watching tv. He won't allow me to touch her or cuddle her even when she's screaming (sometimes for up to 45minutes). She eventually falls asleep from sheer tiredness. I've tried to tell him that leaving her to cry for so long itsn't good for her, but he insists. I know the way I put her to sleep isn't appropriate either (I rock her or feed her to sleep), but I think he's being cruel. What advice do you have?

Hi Lisa,

Crying it out is harsh and that’s why our settling techniques are all hands on. Also when you eventually transfer her to her cot and she isn’t where she went to sleep, then this is going to give her a fright. Can I strongly suggest to you that you get a copy of <a href="It's time to sleep</a"">It's Time To Sleep</a> DVD&Book and watch it together and let your partner see that by using our techniques you will get a better response by settling her awake into her cot with our hands on techniques. I think this would be less stressful for all concerned.

If you would like any other advice just ask.

It's Time to Sleep

hi there, i have a 8 month old that was sleeping through up until 2 months ago, i tried controlled crying but he just screamed for ages and it just took too long to settle him back down, at the moment he is waking 3 to 4 times a night and if i try to give him a bottle he refuses, i end up walking all over the house singing for an hour sometimes more, I NEED SLEEP

Our settling program is not just about letting a baby cry themselves to sleep. Our techniques involve lots of hands on and give a clear and positive message that it’s time to sleep. You can get details of the program in <a href="">Your Baby’s Sleep</a> section or from <a href="It's time to sleep</a"">It's Time To Sleep</a> DVD&Book.
