20 mth old who will not sleep through Lock Rss

My 20 month old son will not sleep through the night. While he is quite happy to go to sleep in his cot after as little as an hour but usually three hours he wakes up screaming and we can only settle hime by bringing him into our bed. We have tried soothing him, tried letting him cry it out (he screams so much he vomits) and nothing works. This has beeen going on for many months. In october we went to the US where he slept in a bed for 3 weeks straight through the night. We couldn't believe it. Once home and back in the cot, the old routine started straight away. Should I get him his own bed or am I just making a bad situation worse?
Many thanks,
Elisa

Hi Elisa,
Lachlan has made a habit of getting up to sleep with you and if you don’t change this he won’t either.
I would leave him in his cot for now and try using some settling techniques when he wakes.

He will protest but the techniques we use give a clear and repetitive message, which works much better than just ‘crying it out’

Many babies vomit to get your attention and it works.
Knowing you are following a tough but proven program makes it a bit easier to persist through the worst moments.

I suggest that you follow the techniques for 6 to 12months old, which will still work for you while Lachlan is still in his cot.

You can get details for our settling program from Your Baby’s Sleep page or from <a href="It's time to sleep</a"http://www.itstimetosleep.com/">It's Time To Sleep DVD&BOOK.

Best of luck.
Cheers Maree
