summary:
It may be noisy, but letting your child drum on plastic containers with wooden spoons is a good way to keep him safely within earshot while you’re cooking.

Need an easy activity to keep your child distracted while you cook? Look no further than your kitchen cabinets. Let your child create a drum set out of plastic containers, inexpensive colanders, wooden spoons, and plastic utensils.
Big-Kid Bandmates
Older children can join in the band by adding a small xylophone, kazoo, toy guitar, tiny keyboards, or whatever other musical toy your family owns. Or, put baby’s big sibling in charge of leading the rhythm section: Have him tap a simple rhythm and get baby to follow. (At this age, baby probably can’t – but she’ll laugh while trying!)
Storage and Safety
Keep kitchen band supplies in a kid-accessible cabinet so that your child can make music whenever the mood strikes. Be sure to store it away from your immediate cooking area to keep kids from being underfoot while hot dishes are being prepared.
