An imaginative way for children to learn about shapes.

For a low-cost way to entertain your child on a rainy day, this artistic and educational craft can’t be beat. Use a few different colours of construction paper to cut out a variety of shapes. Then, help your child glue the shapes on a white piece of paper to create a geometric masterpiece.

Simple Spacial Relations

While these designs aren’t complex, the ideas behind them may be for toddlers. It takes time for young children to understand that all the things we see around us comprise of shapes. These simple building ideas help drive home that point.

Talk with your toddler about the shapes she’s using and see if she can mimic each move you make:

See what other objects she can construct: A garden? A highway with cars? Let her get excited about the things she can come up with.
