Your little chef can “cook” right beside you.

Keeping kids occupied and out of trouble when you’re trying to cook dinner is mission impossible for many mums. You need to keep a close eye on them, but there are so many accidents waiting to happen in the kitchen. Here’s one fun way to distract your child long enough to get dinner on the table. Warning: This activity is not the cleanest, but it will buy you time and peace of mind.

  • Spread an area of your kitchen floor with newspaper or a plastic garbage bag.
  • Sit your child down and give him lots of unbreakable plastic bowls and cooking utensils.
  • Scoop a small mound of flour into one of the bowls.
  • Give him a few jars of expendable non-spicy spices and let him “cook” with them by sprinkling them over the flour.

He’ll have a blast mixing, stirring and scooping the ingredients to his recipe. And you’ll be able to get your cooking done!
