An educational and edible way for your child to learn about the parts of the face.

Ever-changing expressions and unique features make faces a favourite for children to look at. Here’s an amusing way to teach your child about the parts of the face — and get him to eat vegetables, too — using fun finger foods.

Gather From the Kitchen

3 plastic plates
6 steamed baby carrots, sliced lengthwise
A few grapes
1 small banana, sliced
Half cup peas, steamed

Using the ingredients, make a face on each plate with one facial feature missing. For example, use two banana slices for eyes, a carrot for the nose, but leave off the mouth. Or make a mouth out of a line of peas, two grapes for eyes, but leave off the nose. Present each plate to your child and point out the parts of the face. Then ask where the missing feature is? (e.g. “Where is the nose? Can you help me find the nose?”) Help your child place the correct part on the plate. Then, let him gobble it all up!
