summary:
Here’s a fun, safe way to have story time on the road.

Children are not known for their patience, especially during long car rides. But you can detour around a major temper meltdown with recorded story-time.
- Record a dozen of your child’s favorite books either on tape or CD.
- Be sure to speak in an animated tone, and make conscious pauses in the recording if the book allows for your child to answer a question or talk along with the tape. For fun, let your toddler’s older siblings read some parts, and point out when that part plays on the recording.
- Consider putting multiple books on one tape or CD, and playing your child’s favorite songs in between story readings.
- Older children may enjoy holding onto the books and helping their younger sibling follow along as they listen to the stories.
Star Guest Appearance: Consider taping a read-aloud session you have with your child before the trip. Try to capture your child’s voice on tape and see how she reacts: Most kids get a giggle out of hearing themselves talk, so be prepared to listen to that section over and over.
