Bouncing Baby!

Duration: any

Age: baby, toddler, parent

Skill for Bub: Muscle builder, Mind builder

Bouncing Baby on your knee does more than just provide smiles for the whole family – it also helps her build her muscles.

As Baby continues to develop her skills and muscles, there are ways for you to play with her while encouraging further development. The following exercise stimulates Baby’s muscles and mind at the same time. Recite the following poem while performing the exercise:

Bouncing, Bouncing on My Knee

Bouncing, bouncing on my knee
Bouncing, bouncing on my knee
Bouncing, bouncing on my knee
Just Baby and me.
I’ll swing you high and swing you low
I’ll hold you close, and I won’t let go.
(Repeat several times)

Here’s what to do:

  • Sit comfortably in a chair, and hold Baby under her arms so that your hands are around her chest.
  • Baby should be standing up on your knees, facing you (so she can see your face) or facing outward (if there are other people she can see).
  • By lifting your heels up and down off the floor, you will gently bounce her up and down (this is also a great workout for your calves!).
  • When you sing “I’ll swing you high,” lift her up and tilt her from side to side in the air, and then lower her back to her standing position on your knees (this is a great workout for your shoulders!).
