Hi Roy I realise you are in NSW but if you or anyone for that matter was looking for a great holiday accomodation on the Gold Coast in QLD I can recommend Royal Palms Resort on the beach at Palm Beach. We have just returned from 5 days and had a ball. You dont have to even leave the hotel if you dont want too. They are right on the beach with a fantastic resort pool which you can walk into which starts out shallow like the ocean, complete with slippery slide into the pool. They have an out door spa connected to the pool. They also have mini putt putt and of course a tennis court. They even have a gym and BBQ areas which are kept perfectly clean. If you want the beach you just walk right out the gate to the patrolled surf right out the front of the resort. If you prefer calm water that too is just a short stroll around the corner on a beautiful walk way. If you like to fish that too is an options along this walk way. There is a small shopping centre (complete with restaurants & hotel) within walking distance or a bigger shopping centre approx 5 mins drive. You are right next to Currumbin which has the Currumbin Bird Sanctuary which is a lovely family day out. There are even discount vouchers for the entry fee in the resort reception area. Every room is self contained with microwave and dishwasher and most rooms have pay TV and or a video. There are 1 and 2 bedrooms units. Our 2 bedroom unit had a single bed and bunks in the 2nd room. The views are just beautiful from your room, day and night. The buses are just out the door and Coolangatta air port is just minutes away. The planes come very close to the resort (but only during the day) which the younger kids also love. We found it was perfect for us as we just wanted to sit around and relax which was easy as everything was right at our finger tips. Jupiters Casino and Pacific Fair are about a 5 - 10 min drive. There is even security car parking and the whole resort can only be entered with a security tag which is given to you when you arrive. I know this probably sounds like an ad but it was just a perfect great family holiday and we will be going back in the new year. They do have a web site www.royalpalm.com.au but ring them direct for cheaper deals on 07 55345999.
not sure whereabouts in nsw you are but there are heaps of places in northern nsw. my partner is a coffs harbour boy and has taken me to heaps of great places. you can't go past the beach for kids as far as i'm concerned! i have yet to meet a child who doesn't love it! evans head, minnie waters, brunswick heads just look at a map and pick a coastal town. evans head is one of our favourites. go to one of the real estate sites and they have a listing of holiday houses available some of them are really quite cheap and normally quite large which makes them ideal for a couple of families if you want to take friends a long. you can swim, fish hire boats and there is always parks etc. or you can camp at any of those places. have a great time!!

Depending on how far you want to go, but Cairns is great! Trinity Beach has a great place to stay called 'Costa Royale' (07 40578888). They have townhouses (2brm) and beachfront units. It's not too touristy and there's public transport as well as car hire and oodles of things to do from animal stuff, to the reef, waterslides, waterfalls, the esplanade, Port Douglas etc. Virgin flights are reasonable from Sydney and September/October is the best time of year to come - not too hot, not too windy and no stingers. Trinity Beach is netted and patrolled by life guards.

Come on up!
Hi everyone, thanks for your replies.

We ended up doing a bit of a driving holiday down the south coast. We tried to stay in cabins etc that had self catering facilities as much as possible but found some great B&B's that catered for kids.

It's just so beautiful down there. We had lots of picnics, parks, bush walks (not too long of course) relaxing and playing on the beach.

I came home sooooo relaxed. Pity that feeling doesn't last forever.

Cool, thanks for letting us know. I come back and check every so often and I did wonder what you ended up doing! Glad you had a great time!
