Info on Membrane sweeps and Natural inductions Lock Rss

Hi all, we are trying for a Natural birth after 2 c sections and my midwife has suggested we look at a Membrane sweep and other natural inductions methods to bring on labour when I am around 28 weeks.
Has anyone used any of these methods or know what other natural induction methods are avalible, I know about sex, walks, evening primrose but nothing else.
Keen to hear for you.

Hi Chrissy
Good luck with your decision to try for a natural birth after 2 cesears. I tryed after 2 cesear but it did'nt work out. My only advice to you is do your home work find out all you can read all the articles because what they tell you about the risks are very contradicting.
Do you know what a membrane sweep actually involves i've heard about it but only on American sites i've never heard of it being done here.

Hi Chrissy,
I had a membrane sweep a week before my bubs due date, as I had really bad braxton hicks. They started 2 weeks before her due date and I had them every hour for 2 weeks straight.
The membrane sweep hurt, but a tickle hurt. I didn't like it but if it was going to help bring bub on, I would've done anything. I tried all the old wives tales. Driving on bumpy roads, eating fresh pineapples, sex, walking, warm baths, raspberry tea. The only thing I didn't do was the castor oil thing as that can be dangerous.
Don't really know if the membrane sweep helped or not in my case, but I have heard of other women who had it and then went into labour. But then babies come when they're good and ready.
Good luck with everything.

Hi Chrissy

Hi had the membrane sweep this morning. It was uncomfortable, I didnt find it painful.

My due date is tommorrow.

I will keep u posted on if it worked or now. Dr advised me if it works, labour can start any time from 6hrs to 3days. Tht is only his opinion and his advise to me.

I have also been taking the red rasberry leaf tables brisk walks and warm baths. My Dr says that the sexual intercourse is the only tale with scientific background as the hormones in the semen when deposited around the cervix near the due date act in a simlar way to the gel they use to induce.

I think u should have a chat to your Dr. They sposed to be the experts. 8) all the best.

Hi Bobbie - Hope all goes well with your induction and birth of your baby. I would love to hear how it works out for you.

My miwdife said she will "perscribe" regular sex from 36 weeks as that helps soften the cervix and possibly nipple stimulation as that can bring on contractions.

She also has some stretches she will get me to do from 36 weeks.

Re the doctor, I am under a independant midwife so am not seeing a doctor, but will be seeing a specialist at appox 30 weeks due to the fact that I have had 2 c sections.

I have also heard that raspberry leaf tea is supposed to be good, will look into it.

I have also recently heard about accupressure how it can help you go into labour and help with the pain. check out if your interested.
