Circumscision- Rss

Hi All,
Whilst I know alot of you will get on your soap box about this! I am having it done because we have a medical condition that has affected most of the men on my side of the family. My mum didn't do my youngest bother and he suffered continual reinfection till he was almost 17. he's a much happier boy these days! (My mum thought if she taught him how to clean it and keep it, that it would be ok-but it wasn't.)
So my question is where in Brisbane did you attend? What method was used?
I had my first son done in melbourne and I don't want just anyone doing it!
(Please pm if your not comfy discussing it on here- as I realise there can be an interesting mentality if someone doesn't like you POV!)

Hi KandiedHeart smile

We are looking into getting DS done, there is a Dr Terry Russell in Macgregor that does it and apparantly he is one of the best in QLD. I rang, and for my DS who is over 6 months we were quoted $700, but I think it is cheaper for a younger baby. Here is a link to his website which explains what method he uses and has his contact details as well. We haven't had any experience with him but have had him recommended to us by a couple of different people, so I'm just going off what they have told me.

Good Luck

Like you I am sick of hearing people who say that it is wrong to circumcise.

Whilst pregnant I asked all my friends. Most had it done. Of the 3 mothers that didn't 2 had to get it done later due to infections, one at 5 years old and the other mother wishes she did.

Another thing, my son was born half circumcised (its called natural circumcision) so I finished the job. If it is so wrong then why can it happen naturally. Apparently it is common although I had never heard of it before.

I recommend whatever clinic you go to to use one that still uses a good pain medication. Where I live there is only one doctor that uses a good local. The rest just numb the area and make you hold him. Like a punishmnent or something. The clinic I went to uses the local so 4 hours later I just had to give more panadol as the initial medication wore off. The nurse took him and he came back 10mins later and slept for the 1/2 hour waiting period inm my arms. Didn't look traumatised to me. I only had to give more panadol twice. He slept through the night and than woke up fine. The first pee can be a little sore but it ends quick.
Hi,
( Kleefy its hard. I could imagine the uproar I'd cause if I got on my soap box about half the things that other parents do!
But I just wouldn't cos it so ignorant- hence the rudeness of the begining of my message!)

It never worried ds1 either! He was a bit uncomfy when I first got him back, but it was for like two minutes and I think that had more to do with that I was fussing over him!
DS1 was too young for panadol too when he had it done, so other then intially pain meds he had nothing and I had NO problems!
Half circed? ive never heard of it either- don't hear bout reconstructive surgery for that though *wink*
I guess it just looks tidy now rather then half done:-)

hey woosie,
Thats who i had heard about to! But then I read that he had been in trouble for some sort of unfit practice back in 2004. I have no idea if is true or not! and I can't find any other info.
Could just be slander anti-circ people can pump out noamount of BS.
But he came very highly reccommmend to me too!
$700? Is that a typo? We paid $150 in melbourne for a highly respected Kew cosmetic surgeon (who is a dr and muslim into bargain) Just curious:-) Do you know if you get any rebate on $700?

Hi,

No typo, she quoted me $700! I'm not sure if its because of DS' age or not, but thats what she said?! I've heard you do get a rebate from Medicare but I'm not sure how much you would get back? I'm going to the Dr's next week so I might ask him if he can recommend/refer me to someone good who might be a bit cheaper? I don't really know how to go about finding another Dr to do it though, it seems to be very hush hush and no one really advertises that they do it, so I'm lost as to how to go about it?

Hi,

We had our boy done at Dr Russell's about 2 weeks ago (he was 3weeks old) and they were fantastic. we had a consultation with the Dr first to be shown exactly how the procedure would be done and when it was time the nurse took him in (no parents allowed) and Dr and nurse did it.
I thought it was great that the parents aren't there as of course bub's is going to be a bit upset, but more so because they are being held down than from pain. When they brought him back out only about 10mins later if that, he was fine.
We have not needed to use any sort of pain releif after the proceedure as immediately after he was fine, we didn't notice any difference in his behaviour.
Because he was only a lil but we paid $500 and got $294 back from medicare (this will be different for everyone depending on what level of the safety net your at), but worth every cent in the long run.
I wouldn't have gone to anyone else to have it done because of how highly recommended they were.
Good luck with your decision.

I get my boys doine in southport. he's $450 but get $100 back. it'd probably a bot further for you to travel than Dr russell though, i have a 12 yo a 5 yo a 4yo and a boy due in feb so he will be also done. Dr tracey has been doing it for over 40 years i think from memory, and wednesdays are the circ day.
From memory Terry Russell charges around $400 for newborn..

i had ds done on the southside (2.5 yrs ago) for $250 but the doc who did it must have quit her job cause she's not there anymore.

Just saw this post - not sure if you are still looking or not but Dr Easton at Wamuran does it for $60 (i think that was the amount - something like that anyway). Had both of my boys circ by him and I know alot of little boys he has done - all have been fine. I found him very good. He only does 1 a day (I think) and only up to 4 or 6 weeks or something so depends on the age your bub too whether he will be suitalbe or not. Good luck with it all.

Hi Ladies
I also had my ds done at 5 weeks old. He is now 4 months. He was absolutely fine after the procedure and no panadol was needed. I know it hurt him when i changed his nappy for about a week but i did it as quick as possible.
I really hate all the crap about circumcision. We chose to have it done as there had been other men in our family who had problems and had to get it done where they were older. But why do i feel so bad for doing it? I know he was fine and didnt seem to be bothered by it. But for some reason now i feel ashamed when i take his nappy off infront of other mums who have boys. None of the boys in my mothers group are done. I know some mums have very strong views against it. Even some close friends and i dont want to get into an argument about it either. They say that getting boys circumsized is on the rise again and it wont be too long before medicare cover the full procedure. But why do i feel like i have done something wrong....Is it because other mums who dont beleive in it make us feel so bad about it?
