Worried about him suffocating!!! Rss

I have a 6 month old son who stiil prefers to be wrapped for sleeping. This hasn't been a real problem really, until recently when he started trying to roll in his cot while still wrapped. I'm concerned that if he rolls onto his tummy while his arms are still wrapped that he may suffocate, as he won't be able to push himself up with his arms.

I have tried getting him to sleep without being wrapped but I am only successfull at night time and then it's only once or twice a week if I'm lucky. He still won't go to sleep during the day unless I wrap him.

I'm really desperate for some advice on what to do.

Try wrapping your son with one arm out and one arm wrapped. Otherwise just wrap him losely around his arms so he can get them free himself.
Hi Dayna,
I had exactly the same problem with my 6 month old son. It's only been a couple of weeks since I stopped wrapping him.
It does take a while for them to get use to it but there is light at the end of the tunnel. You just need to keep trying until he starts to get the message & feels comfortable going to sleep without his wrap.

The best way is to start is to put him to bed without his wrap and leave him to try & self settle for 10 minutes for the first time, then gradually increase the time until he's sleeping without his wrap.
I stopped wrapping my son due to saftey reasons, as I was finding he was getting out of his wrap & getting tangled up in it.

There is a way you can wrap your son if you don't want to stop using a wrap.
If you check out this website it will show you a picture of a way to wrap him so if he does roll over he can use his arms to lift his head up. http://www.swsahs.nsw.gov.au/karitane/docs/wrap.asp

Goodluck, & let me know how thing's go.
Are you guy's from Sydney by any chance?

Hi

Have you tried using a safety sleep or wedge, my daughter used a wedge till she was about 8 months old but she was quite a small baby and it allowed her to roll only part way over but because the wedge was against her tummy she couldnt roll right over and she was still wrapped.

Hope you find something that works soon
Good Luck
