Took a long time deciding between a few different ideas for the baby’s room. We had to choose something that would work for a girl or boy because we were not finding out ahead of time. We found some subtle yellow/gray/cream sheets with elephants on them and decided to work around that. From the time I was a little girl I had collected elephants; and we had loved our trip to Africa.

We had custom stickers made for the wall of a huge acacia tree and some elephants. Also of a beautiful quote from a favourite childrens book (I once met the author) that we say to the baby each night before bed.

My husband spent MANY hours refinishing a couple of old family dressers (one from the 1920’s). And then we ordered special elephant knobs for them. My grandmothers hope chest is used to store extra blankets.

There is an elephant mobile, elephant nappy holder and elephant rocker for when baby is older. We have hung a framed ultrasound picture with a poem. And now there is a name sign on the door and a newborn photo on the wall. We put up a netting over the cot to keep cuddly cat out.

We wanted something different and not too ‘cutesie’, and we are happy with the result.
