Hi Alex,
I`m pregnant with my second baby and I`m 38weeks 5days. I`ve had a couple of extra ultrasounds firstly because when we had the 20week scan the Dr was worried about one of babies kidney`s being only slightly more dilated than normal. When we had a scan at 36weeks, the kidney looks great but my OB told me that baby looked bigger than normal and started talking about induction early, I told him that I don`t want that as I`ve experienced an induction before and didn`t really enjoy it at all. So he scheduled another scan and I`ve had that today. The person who did the scan (we live in CQ so she was just a tech) told me today that baby`s head was so big it didn`t even register on the scale. She also said that according to all measurements that baby is overdue. I`m now scared of what this means. I don`t want to have a ceaser I don`t feel it`s how my babies should be born, I realise this is irrational and I know that I`ll probably have to get used to the idea. The person today didn`t actually give me the measurement of babies head so I have no idea just how big it is. Do you know what the scale is for head measurements and what the top measurement? Also if you can give me some idea of what questions I should be asking my OB on Tuesday when I see him. Hope this makes some sense.
Thank you for your help
Kate
Thank you for your enquiry. How big was your first baby? This will give an indication of this baby. If your first one was large then you have a higher chance of having another big baby. If you had no trouble giving birth with your first baby then your pelvis should be large enough to give birth to your next child. If there is a decision that you need to be induced you can ask that you do it gradually by just using the gel and letting it work for a day or more before using anything else. This way the induction is less intense.
Best wishes,
Alex.
