Hi Alex.
Im just wondering about how accurate the due date/gestational age that the doctors estimate is? Ive never had regular periods and I couldnt even give a ballpark estimate of when I had my last one, other than maybe January 2007, as they used to come between 4 and 10 weeks apart, I never kept check (apart from the fact Ive always been told I can never have children, so the last thing I expected was pregnancy). I went for an ultrasound to see if I had ovarian cysts and thats when I found out I was pregnant. She measured the yolk sack and said I was 6 weeks + a few days and this was on April 28, 2007. After that she gave me an EDD of December 18, 2007. This is the due date that the midwives have gone with so far, but I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks at the hospital, and they did lots of measurements, and they all came up between 19-23 weeks of gestational age. So Im just wondering if I could have a different due date to the one I got back in March? Im going to a birth centre and their cut off is 37 weeks and I dont want to have to go to the hospital and not have a natural birth just because of innacurate dates.
Thanks in advance.
Krista.
Thank you for your enquiry. Early ultrasounds are usually quite accurate at predicting the age of your baby. SO it is wise to try to go from these dates. All babies are born weighing differing amounts so later ultrasounds are more inaccurate as to the age. Many women do not know their last period date and go from an early ultrasound so don`t worry too much I sure that it will work out.
Best wishes,
Alex.
