My partner and I separated while she was preganant. She is now born and I have seen my child however access and information is limited. As the father am I allowed to contact the midwife and ask questions? or receive updates second hand?

You can receive information about your daughter but not information about your ex partner unless she gives permission. You will be able to find out if there are any problems with your daughter and what type of birth she had and if she has received any immunisations as yet. You are able to approach the midwife directly.
