I am constantly getting `gosh your small` comments
Hi Alex,
I am now 31 weeks and my belly size has only increased by 1cm over the last 5 weeks. I am constantly getting `gosh your small` comments (this is my 1st baby) and I do feel small because when my baby moves it actually is starting to hurt alot more. My midwife made another appointmant for 2 weeks time but never explained any possibilities to me if I still have not grown and what if any risks may be involved. I am hoping you can ease my concerne a little.
Kristy.

Hi Kristy,
If you are seeing the same midwife each visit then it is a better indication of the baby’s growth. They will be able to tell you if they feel that generally it is not growing or the growth is slow. If they were very concerned they would have booked you in for a scan to do a more thorough check of the baby’s size when compared to others. If the baby’s growth has slowed it may be an indication that the placenta is not working too well and the baby will be closely monitored to check it is still growing at an acceptable rate. If it is found that the baby is not growing well a decision may be made to birth the baby earlier than the due date so that it can be better fed once born. Sometimes there are no causes found for the placenta not working as it should but sometimes it is due to the mother smoking.
Best wishes,
Alex
