Aquatic Centre

An aquatic centre is usually a large pool complex comprising of multiple pools and other facilities. On this page you’ll find some more information about what to expect at your local aquatic centre for you and your baby.

Facilities at aquatic centres

If you’re looking for a place where you and your baby can learn, bond and have fun in the water together, then an aquatic centre might be for you. In fact, with the astonishing array of activities at many centres, you could go there just for a swim and come out days later!

Aquatic centres are a combination of pool complex and fitness centre, often with a healthy dose of therapies like massage and beauty treatments thrown in for good measure. Some of the activities might include the following:

  • Swimming club – a good place for the kids to meet new friends
  • Swimming lessons – private instruction and group lessons for kids and adults
  • Swimming competitions
  • Fitness classes – aerobics, body pump, yoga, etc.
  • Gym – self-paced training or personal trainer, free weights and cardio machines
  • Health club – massage, sauna, steam room and other therapies

Because they are generally larger than your average public pool they tend to have a wider variety of facilities and more fun stuff like waterslides, fountains and recreational pools. For that much-needed break from being a parent, you’ll find most centres also have a crèche. Aquatic centres are great spots for entertaining kids during the school holidays, and many centres run additional activities classes during the holidays for kids who want to learn to swim and have fun.
