Green Ribbon Award Winner!
Karen and Karl Upston (Envirocomp Solution Ltd) WIN the GREEN RIBBON AWARD for “Making a difference to household sustainability” category
On the 3rd of June 2008 Karen and Karl were recognised at the Green Ribbon Awards, in Wellington, for their outstanding contribution to reducing household waste by providing a viable alternative for nappy disposal. The award was presented by the NZ Prime Minister Helen Clark. The Green Ribbon Awards are being promoted in conjunction with New Zealand’s hosting of World Environment Day on the 5th of June.
Green Ribbon Awards have been running for 18 years and winners are selected by the Ministry for the Environment. The awards are an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding contribution New Zealanders make to sustaining, protecting and enhancing our environment.
Huggies® are a key sponsor of Karen and Karl’s initiative. We are delighted that Karen and Karl have been honored for what is already a remarkable achievement. They have turned a concept about composting disposable nappies into a commercial business which will open in Canterbury later this year. On the way they have teamed up with R5 Solutions to provide the technology, got Hurunui council on board to provide the land and signed a sponsorship deal with Huggies one of the world’s leading nappy manufacturers.”
