Skippy...what did you send in? Rss

What did you end up sending in for show and tell?
I have put together a sun safe kit. Hat, glasses, suncream all that so he can talk about what they do and why you need them. That was the easiest option for me, we didn't have a great lot of 'keep me safe' stuff lying around the house.

I tell ya what though, every week for show and tell this Term is doing my head in. My brain is absolute mush, might be i have a low IQ anyway or am VERY tired this pregnancy.

I mean:
'Something we can hear but not feel'?!
'Something we can feel but not see'?!
'An object that is a 3 dimentional object'

Back in MY day, we just took something we loved from home and talked about it. None of this topical crap laugh laugh laugh
Drives me nuts.

That topical crap for show and tell drives me nuts now and i'm not even pregnant!!

oh wow, that is random...
But good idea on the sun safe things grin
You did well Skippy!

I like that it's show and TELL as I have forgotten a few times and DS1 has reminded me on the way to school so we have a quick chat and then he goes to school and has something to Tell instead of show!!

Im glad our topics haven't been as hard as yours though! some weeks we have free choice others it's been a story you enjoy or something about your mum, favourite teddy ect ect!

I think the hardest was something that keeps you alive everything I came up with someone had already done then I forgot and he ended up using his apple out of his lunch box lol!!

WOW! I sooo didnt realise that thats how show and tell was done now....I better get ready for it next year. Good thinking 99 on the sun safe kit! Do they honesty expect primary school kids to think up answers for topics like that? They should send the stamps and stickers home for the mums and dads!

My son (Gr.1) bought home a list of his upcoming Show and Tell "themes" - and like you Skip, my brain felt like mush, and I'm not even pregnant!! I said to DH, "What is this? Homework for the parents?" His first one was "Me in a Bag", so he had to take 5 props that would help him talk about himself - it took the whole weekend for me to think of what 5 things (that weren't all toys) could help describe who DS is!

It's doing my head in too.... the one that actually made my jaw drop open was "what does Jesus mean to you?" ........really? For a 5 year old?! I mean, I know its a Christian school and I'm not against teaching kids about all that but I'm shocked at that one - I don't think dd even knows who Jesus is! Lol

Another one is 'discuss which community groups you belong to and why': -we don't belong to any so I don't know how to help her with that one.

Its seems silly really because its too difficult for them to organise for themselves, so then it falls back onto the parents.

Skip.... the feel and not see one could be your baby and how he will be able to feel it kick soon. smile

Couldn't have done it without the Huggies ladies wink

Well, I think it's also maybe about getting the parents to also teach the children things I guess. Which is all good, but what am I paying them for LOL. Nah, it's not so much about that as I'm not an academic and that tired most of the time thinking up answers to these topics hurts the old brain.
Good ing we got Huggies to help though. Several mommy brains out together makes for a powerful thing. So next year if you need help, turn to Huggies wink

Grade 1? My sons doing this in kindy. So when he gets to school how many grades is he going to do show and tell?

Community groups sounds nosy to me.
I don't mind topics as such, but keep them basic.
Thanks for the feel and not see option. That's bloody brilliant woman. I'll be twelve weeks by then so I think technically if he pushed on my belly he'd be ale to feel that hard ball. So technically could feel the baby. But not see it. I'll find out about that one. Not sure if they NEED something physical or can just talk about something though? One of our friends is one of his kindyteachers so I'll msg her and see if we can do that.

I'm not sure when Show and Tell finishes at school, but I remember doing it in Gr.4 - hopefully by that stage I wont have to help out as much!!

OH wow is that how they do show and tell now blink

We always used to just bring in random objects from home we thought was interesting and left it at that laugh

'Something we can hear but not feel'?!
'Something we can feel but not see'?!
'An object that is a 3 dimentional object'

Hear but not Feel: Music, he takes in a tape/cd of his favourite song (probably a good idea to make sure that the lyrics are child friendly so there's no problem with it) and he can talk about the song and why he likes it then play a small section of it, maybe the chorus or something. He could teach his class the words to a song he likes that's nice and easy. Another option is, if he knows any words in a different language, he could teach them to his class members.

Feel but not see - talk about an emotion, or something like the wind - we can't see the wind but we can feel it blowing against us/we only see the effects of the wind e.g. leaves blowing/pinwheel spinning but we can't see the wind.

A 3 dimensional object can literally be anything with depth (so that can be picked up). If you wanted to go for a specific shape he could take something like a dvd of his favourite movie and talk about how the dvd case is a rectangular prism, a ball from a sport he plays is a sphere etc but you probably don't have to go that far - his favourite toy would fit the category of 3 dimensional object. I think for that its just that they don't want a picture of the item (which would be a 2D representation of it) but the actual item.

Leisa.

Thanks. Guess I'll find out eventually. Hopefully schools isn't topical

I know right. Same with back in my day. Just whatever. Nothing we HAD to bring in, just anything we loved at the time.

Thank you for that Leisa.
Appreciate it. That's a brilliant help.

In NZ we didn't have "show & tell" it is called 'News' which is personal in younger years to current events when older.

I'm a teacher & I have had my Year 6's (10 & 11 year olds) once a week bring in some current events (local, national or international from a paper or the internet - would need to bring web address or print a copy) They would have to write up the who, where, what, when, why & how summary of the article & share with the class. Also once a term they had to present a book review. The week they did their book review they didn't have to do current events.

I'm over it to be honest.

see i think this is so wrong.

this show and tell doesn't actually sound like show and tell it's more like homework or an activity they should organise at school.

show and tell is exactly that show (sometimg yuor child has chosen that means something to them ) and tell the class about it.

that's my opinion anyway smile

Everything is too complex these days. I'm not going to cope with it all when DS starts school! Especially homework which i think kids have way too much of these days!
