teething necklaces
Do they really work?? Also is 14 months to old to start using one. Will dd just want to take it off???
I personally wouldnt use them as I think they could get caught on something and end up strangling your child, but maybe thats just me being too worried bout these kinds of hazzards smile
I got one for DD1, but the weirdest thing ever- she was worse the whole time she had it on!No idea why! Anyways, we've kept it to try with DD2- it didn't put us off.
I have heard great things about them. I don't think she's too old at all. Especially seeing as she will be getting some big a55 molars soon. The necklaces are quite close to the neck, so chances are she won't even see it, although she may feel it there. No doubt they would be built tough seeing as though they are for kids.
One thing I learnt after I bought mine was that you have to 'charge' it up in the sun. I forget how long for, but it was Creative Ness that helped me out, so she could tell you.
Mine wasn't too expensive, and I think anything's worth a shot for a babies discomfort smile

I too am a bit iffy about the whole choking thing, so I took DD's off at night. I wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise. But I'd say most people leave them on- night time is a bad time for waking.

My son has one and it doesnt take away the pain altogether but when he is wearing it he is so much more settled... I only noticed how much difference it made when I forgot to put it on him and went out and he was really sooky and clingy and I put it on him because I found it in the baby bag and within 1/2 an hour he was back to his normal self.
With the while choking think I think you will find if it is pulled at hard enough the clasp will come undone. They are made specially to make sure they cannot choke the child. Also each bead is tied on sepereately so if for some reason the necklace breaks the child cannot swollow beads or choke on them. Also they are quite short and sit high up on the chest so babies usually dont even notice they have it on.
Hope I helped. I love them as it does make a difference with my little one. smile

I've never heard of them before, where can I get one from? Kaydee is starting to dribble now so I'm presuming we're not too far off getting some teeth.
I just googled 'amber teething necklaces' and checked out a few online stores. Make sure they explain all about them and esp how they're made. They're for babies, so they should be made as PP said- individual beading so every bead doesn't come off in a break etc.

The change in my wee girl was incredible and I totally recommend them. She had been grizzly and unsettled for weeks with teething. I was skeptical that it would help, but was willing to try anything. Within 20 mins of having the necklace on she was back to her happy playful self. She wore hers all the time and loved having it on. I never took it off at night and never had a problem with it catching on things. They are easy to wash and you just leave to dry in the sun and that seems to 'recharge' the beads.
The only annoying thing was that as she got older she started playing with it and it would sometimes become undone.
Mine was about $25 off trademe, but I think they have gone up in price considerably now as they have become more popular - I got the one with the mixed colours and it was excellent. She stopped wearing it about age 20mths as she didnt seem to need it and for some reason kept sucking on it which I didnt like.
Like someone else has mentioned - make sure you get a beads one & not chips, and that each bead is individually knotted - this reduces the chances of mishaps.
Good luck!

i bought one for my daughter who is now 11 months old, think they are fantastic and they do work, as I left it off for awhile to see if it made a difference and it really does! when she was little i used to wrap it around her ankle when she went down for the night but now she is older i leave it on all the time and only take it off for bathing as bubble bath and lotions etc arent good for them so i was told. I was never told to put them outside in the sun to "recharge them". They should work without that cos they warm to the skin and release their "magical powers!!haha.
Also good for eczema and temperatures. my daughter never got the high temp thing when she got the chickenpox last week and i put it down to the help of the necklace.
