Im wondering the same with my nearly 19 month old.... She watches me going to the toilet and now she grab some toilet paper and put it in the toilet...

They say or ive heard that the signs the child makes, makes no difference in starting toilet training and im rather confused!

Yeah my daughter points to her nappy when i ask her if she's done poos. I bought her a potty but i have a feeling she wont sit on it!
Hi, I have a 19month old daughter and ive just started to toilet train her today. It was awefully frustrating. I hav been putting it off for months. Everyone has been telling me that she is ready to learn. She points to her nappy when she does wees and poos and she is very interested when we go to the toilet and she hates wearing her nappy and takes it off when she has done a wee or poo( which is a huge problem and gets very messy). So I just took the plunge and went for it. She sits on the potty and is very fasinated with it and we sing a wee wee poo poo song but there was no action on the potty today. It was a bit early to expect much i suppose but its the cleaning up after shes done it in her undies that is aweful. I really hope it doesnt take to long and i hope im doing the right thing and at the right time.
My wee girl started getting a bit interested at about 16/17 months old. Although it was very tempting to start training her then I didn't start because I was due to have my second baby when she was 18 months.

Once she was 21 months (and my baby 3months- so not as time consuming!)I decided to let her run round with no pants on after her nap just to see what her reaction would be to weeing. We'd talk about the potty and what it was for etc, then one day she just ran over to it sat down and wee'd! I couldn't believe it! For the next few days whenever we were at home I'd take her pants off and she'd just go on her potty on her own. On about the 5th day she'd figured out the poo's aswell. After 2 weeks I can now get her to wee before we go anywhere and she tells us if she needs to poo.
She only wears knickers and not nappies during the day as I found she'd hold on untill I put on her nappy then go.

I know that Im extremely lucky and its not that easy for everyone but I honestly believe it was this easy because SHE was ready and I was fully commited to supporting her- this meant a lot of staying at home with lots of pants off time and putting her in knickers not being afraid of her having an accident aswell as heaps of praise and lots of butterfly stickers! I dont think it would have been this simple had I started a few months ago, its amazing how much her communication skills improved in such a short time.

I would say it all depends on the particular child and in my case waiting a couple more months and following her lead has saved me a lot of hassle. And time goes so quick anyway- remember when they were only a few days old? seems like just yesterday so whats a couple more months in nappies? All kids figure it out eventually!
