Nappy Rash Rss

My 21mth old son has quite bad nappy rash at the moment and I was hoping someone could give me some ideas to get rid of it.
He has had it for about 2wks I use zinc and Caster oil, have tried their cream for their ezema. He also goes out of nappies and into underpants or nothing.

I swear by Amolin to clear up DS's nappy rash..
Might be worth getting an anti-fungal cream also? It might not simply be nappy rash?
Thanks we are going to take him to the doctor early next week and see what they say

Paw Paw ointment, it is excellent and it's natural! just go to chemist or near health food section in supermarket, it's in a red pot, useful for lots of other ailments too!! for a pretty bad rash it may take about 3 days to clear using pawpaw ointment.

If it's being hanging around that long and not responding to normal zinc treatments it's best to get a GP to have a look. My DS has stubborn nappy rash once that I just couldn't get rid of and the GP diagnosed it as a fungal infection (it was very red with little spots).
I found the best cream for normal nappy rash is Sudocrem and Daktozin nappy rash cream for any nappy rash that looks fungal.

Good luck, I hope your DS feels better soon smile

All three of my girls had terrible nappy rash to the point there skin would crack and bleed, then a nurse put me on to Calmosepine, they use it on patients in the hospitals. you can buy it from any chemist for about $11.00 for a tube, it is very thick and you only need a little. But I swear buy it!!
Bepanthen works well, i tried this after few other creams and found this was the best, hav been using since then.
I swear by Vaseline. It coats the affected area and doesn't allow any more acid (from poos and wees) onto the rash therefore clearing it more quickly.

Used Vaseline with both my children and worked a treat. Good luck, it's not nice seeing them with red bottoms!

I to have been onto calmosepine. It is a zinc base with a cooling agent.
Oh I only use facewashers instead of wipes they are more gentle!
I swear by Daktozin. Its an anti fungus cream thats zinc based. So you dont need to use two different creams. It also stays on well and its nice and thick.
I tried all the other mentioned creams over time and this one we found the best. It clears it up within a couple of days and really soothes the pain and discomfort.
All the other creams and ointments would work sometimes but not others and this one I have found to be very trustworthy!

I chose Vaseline because there are no added chemical agents in it. The zinc based creams definately do work quickly however Vaseline is safer and may take a day more or 2 to heal.

We took our daughter to doc's and he gave us a prescription for Hydrozol ointment. He also took a swab to make sure there was no infection. Took about a week to clear up.
My wee man had rather severe nappy rash when he started teething at 6 months. Everytime he had a bowel motion he would scream the house down in agony. We have tried just about everything, and after numerous visits to the doctor, we were prescribed MIH Creme. It's a steroid cream that you apply thinly twice a day, then a good layer of zinc & castor oil cream over that. We would also use a cornstarch talc powder or straight corn flour. We found the best thing for cleaning him was warm water and cotton squares. Just dab the rash rather than wipe. Baby wipes even sensitive ones, tend to make the rash flare up. Hope this helps roll eyes

i went to the docs cause my chid had it bad he gave me hydrozole it was gone in 2 days
My son had what I thought was a nappy rash, and as someone mentioned earler, it turned out to be a fungal infection. I tried all the nappy rash creams including Daktozin, and then finally my Doctor said try changing to cloth nappies. I did and the infection cleared up within days, without the aid of any creams.
Inner Health Plus powder in his milk also helped.

Hope this helps. Good Luck - its never nice seeing your little one suffer.
Hi I swear by Corn Flour it works wonders and it clears it up really quickly, you will notice a bigger difference over night, just sprinkler over the the rash.

We found Daktozin nappy rash cream amazing for fungal type nappy rash (very red, sore and sometimes a bit spotty). It's very thick but stays on really well when putting a nappy back on (you'd need to use a nappy if you're going to use it). If that doesn't help clear it up the GP visit sounds like a good idea.

Cornflour works best on my son. Just the no name brand version from the supermarket.
we have also been prescribed hydrozole makes a difference after the first use and cleared up within 2 days. the larger dose needs a prescription but there is a smaller dose (smaller tube) that you can get from the chemist without a prescription and it works just aswell.

lanison its the nipple cream yousd for breestfeeding it is excellent i have tried also many of the things mentioned this clears it up in 1 day
I have 2 toddlers 16months and 28months and I find Sudo cream works wonders and you can also use canesten cream my GP to use it when the sudo cream doesnt work.
Hi, i was wondering where you can buy Daktozin. My daughter has a really bad nappy rash and the Sudocrem is just not helping enough.. thanks
Hi, I know this won't help everyone, but if your little one is over a year old and on normal milk now then I highly recommend trying them on Lactose Free milk. My son had horrid nappy rash and a friend told me that alot of babies have a reaction to the lactose in milk (not an allergy, more like an intolerance until they are older). And literally since the day we changed he hasn't had one single case of nappy rash.
You buy it in the long-life milk aisle.
Good luck.
Bepanthen is the best and helpful!
Zinc doesnt work!

my neighbours had ruin out of Huggies nappies so she went to supermarket to grab more (treasures) for now till she have more time to get huggies. so one night, she put trasures nappy on her daughter...then next morning found really bad rash on daughter's bum! terrible!! i adviced her to use Bepanthen so now it works and daugther's bum is look much better. She refused to buy treasures nappies ever again.
My DD had the most horrible rash also and I was advised by the pharmacist to try Daktozin but also use Dermaid (the lowest strength, pink). You put the Dermaid on first and then put the Daktozin on over the top. Worked a treat and though I have been lucky this time around with my little man, I always have those two creams in the cupboard just in case.
Hope it clears up soon because the poor little things get so upset when it is so red and sore!!!
I tried heaps of different creams and powders but I found pawpaw cream worked best. I would also agree that avoiding using wipes seems to help - the wipes often have alcohol in them. If you don't want to wash a lot of dirty face washers (or for when your out if you don't want to carry a heap of wet washers home) I found that paper kitchen towels that advertise that you can use them wet work really well - just dampen them with tap water.

I've been told by some people that they've had a lot of success with generic brand cornflour - its way cheaper than baby powder and is what most of the baby powders are made of anyway. It didn't work for my baby but would be worth a try.

Good luck - I know it can be hard. I had a very unhelpful clinic nurse tear into me about my little ones rash and none of her suggestions (including the medicated creams) worked at all. In the end it was lots of time without a nappy and pawpaw cream when he did have to wear a nappy that did the trick.
My 10 month old also has terrible nappy rash at the moment, I'm a bit at a loss as to which of all these helpful suggestions to try first! One thing to add - I have read that cornstarch / talcum powder can make nappy rash worse if it is a fungal rash - so worth finding out from the Doc if it is fungal before using this treatment.
Hi There, our son went through the same thing with his first top teeth, (red raw bottom with the wee dots) I tried a lot of things but found corn flour to be great for instantly drying his bottom (a bit messy but benifits out weighed that).
My approach next time will be lots and lots of nappie-off time, using my baby-cheeks nappies (I think they are softer than disposables), cornflour, sudocream, MiH Creme (prescription cream for fungal)and using muslin cloths with water only to clean bottom.
I also found that once I was onto the right thing it cleared up very quickly.
hope this helps you!
We discovered early on that Wipes alone were never good for our now-22mth DD.
Our nappy change routine is to clean with Huggies Wipes, then wipe away the alcohol of the Wipes with a wet face-towel, then dry with a dry towel, then spread a thin layer of Bepanthen.

Maybe once every 3-6 months she may get a rash developing but we nip it in the bud by smothering with fresh aloe vera gel (grandma grows them and we were given one in a pot in our yard) followed by a thick coating of Bepanthen. The Bepanthen finds it hard to stay on the skin due to the slimy aloe gel but we do it anyway.

The aloe vera is a miracle natural product.. a red bum smothered with the gel overnight is clear or clearing the next morning. We just use Bepanthen for all nappy changes for our own peace of mind.
