After your Birth question Rss

Back when i had my son, the hospital just had these huge maternity pads that you just used for your after bleeding.
Fast foward about 4 odd years and i have my daughter. They still have the pads but this time they use nappies for you and disposable knickers. You don't WEAR the nappy but you line your knickers with it.
I couldn't believe it when the midwife wacked one of those on me. I wasn't expecting it at all. But must say, MUCH better for absorbancy and no accidental messes. So it WAS a good idea. Just was amazing how times had changed. My Husband though, thought it was hilarious and still on the rare occasion mentions the nappy i had in my knickers

What do they do where you birth? Do they use the nappys as liners too?
I can't wait til end of the year to see what they're doing now

neither it was pretty much BYO...

well the first afternoon/night I was in bed still as I had a catherter (sp..?) and had a major bleed. so the next morning when I was alowed up and could have a bath, it was pretty much byo.

Oh, that sort of sucks. I liked the use of the Hospital stuff. They just had the right things to use.

During labour for DS I was given the hospitals but after birth for both DS & DD I had to BYO 2. Though I only ever went thru 4 maternity packs
the hospital had disposable undies if you wanted to use them- but I had brought some new ones so used those instead.
they also had pads - both regular and frozen.
didn't see any nappy type things.

All my babes have been caesarean births so while I'm getting feeling back in my legs the midwives would just put their hospital pads between my legs. And then once I was up and about usually the next morning I had to provide my own maternity pads.
Although when I had my first dd (nearly 8 yrs ago) the hospital provided a new pack of maternity pads in my room. They also provided all bubs nappys and clothes for our hospital stay although I preferred for her to wear the clothes I'd bought for her.
I was surprised when I had ds just over a year ago when the hospital told me I needed to bring everything for baby even towels and blankets. I bought a few blankets in thinking that surely they'd let me use one of theirs if ds wee'd on his and when I asked to use one they said NO blink as too many people steal them. Luckily I had 1 more in his going home bag and then called dh to bring more.
Anyway went off track there a bit. laugh
when I had DS the hospital provided maternity pads. They were crappy though so once I was up and about I used my own
When i gave birth to my DS1 21years ago the hospital provided everything Pads, Nappies and they kept me in for 7 days

fast forward 20years when i gave birth to DS2 the hospital provided 2 pads and then i had to use my own... i also had to use my own nappies for DS, although when he got transferred to the NICU they provided nappies... but the worse thing is they kicked me out of the hospital as soon as they could... because they "needed the beds" LOL the ward was almost empty
Both of the hospitals I have birthed at supplied endless amounts of maternity pads. I've never seen these nappy things you're talking about laugh

I find the hospital ones to be too thick though lol kind of found it painful when they were pressing against me after I'd just birthed a 4.5kg baby haha so I would rather take my own that are a lot thinner!
Haha I know the happy pads you mean, our hossie has them too, or they use the big combine pads which are like putting soft bricks in your undies laugh

Needless to say I have my own maternity pads ready to go because both are gross........

15 years ago with DS all was supplied 2 weeks ago with DD all was byo.
thnk god my bleeding has stopped already cos i passionately despise pads of any description we describe them as surfboards ranging from "malibu"= maternity to "kickboards= pantyliners"
I had my son via c-section so the hospital supplied the first pad but after that, even before i could get out of bed, i had to use my own. Had to use my own nappies and had to have my own baby clothes and blankets. Mind you it is a crappy public hospital...
The hospital I had my first two at provided a couple of pack of pads but they were crap so I chose to use my own and they also provided everything for baby including QV bath wash and an 18 pack of Huggies NB.

The hospital I had DD2 at provided clothes, blankets, rtc. for baby and three loose huggies NB and everything else was BYO.

I guess it depends on what sponsorship/donations etc. the hospital gets.
It is BYO at the hospital I have had all my kids at, they give you them for in labour, but other than that they are yours, also same for the kids, own clothes, and nappies and wraps

Ha ha, they had stretchy disposable knickers and a never-ending supply of pads! They would just stick two together to put in the knickers - so unattractive but very comfy smile

When I gave birth to DS 10 months ago, after the birth I was given 1 maternity pad which was huge, then had to supply the rest. I didn't have heaps of bleeding (well, not heavy) so that was ok.

Mum to one DS

i've never heard of the nappy things either and they supplied most pads cause they were keeping track of the blood loss i think then i used my own after after i moved to the maternity ward (day3) aposed to delivery room

I got given the thick maternity pads without wings. They had a draw full of then for my roommate and I to share.

Immediately after giving birth I was advised to wear 2 of those PLUS one of my own and a ice pack (I had pretty bad tearing).

After that first day I just used my own as I found them much more absorbent than the ones the hospital provided!

I have never seen or heard of those nappy things either and I just brought cheap undies that I could throw away!

I also went through four pairs of pj pants on that first night and morning too and had to have my bed sheets changed so maybe those nappies would've come in handy!!! laugh
We get told to bring in our own maternity pads. Tell you what, i'm sooooo looking forward to giving birth right now....bring it on!!!!! If you rewound the clock to the woman who had just given birth to DS over 3yrs ago and said i'd be in this frame of mind, she may have looked a little quizzical...i'm sure I swore off having anymore babies laugh
I had DD and DS in the same hospital. Everything was supplied, including those GIANT pads for the first two days (lol, they really are huge!).
My hospital is BYO, i just used those huge maternity pads after DD. I took in my crappy old black knickers,
A nappy would have come in handy just after i had DD - i remember sitting there and feeling this huge rush of hot liquid. I felt so bad, the midwives had just changed all the bedding and had to do it again!

I love those tubes of ice they give you, i had a 2nd degree tear - they were my best friend!
I had 2 homebirths and for the first few hours I used a Huggies newborn nappy on the recommendation of my independant midwife (nearly 5 years ago). Worked like a treat!
I remember reading on here some time ago that someone bought those Tena incontinence pants to use. She thought they were fantastic!

So..... I've bought some too. Probably a bit weird to wear them but if it works, I'm going to use them smile
When I had DS i had to bring my own maternity pads so I have never seen these nappy things!! They sound good to combat the mess though
At the hospital I gave birth to both my kids at, we were supplied pads in the "birthing suite" but not after you went to the "maternity ward" so our midwife chucked a packet into the bassinette bubs was in and huggies were supplied at 6per day limit, we then tranfered to our local hospital (closest birthing hospital is 65km away fromwhere we live) and they didn't supply pads or disposable nappies but they did supply cloth nappies... so we used them for during the day and disposables at night.
