What's a typical kids lunchbox contain at your place? Rss

OK, so DD starts school in a couple of weeks and I'm worrying about what things to send for snacks & lunch. What items do you send?

And how do you keep things cold when it's hot? Is an insulated lunchbox kept inside enough? Her lunch break isn't until 1.30pm so things will be out of the fridge/freezer for approx. 5 - 5 1/2 hours!
For preschool a typical luch box for my DD has a sandwich, a yougurt, some fresh fruit, a snack bar or some baking, some rice snacks, a cheese slice and a pottle of raisins/dried fruit etc.

She has an insulated lunchbox and I got some reuseable freezable gel packs that I put in it to keep things cool. I saw at the supermarket the other day some yoghurt stick which you can freeze and put in the lunch box they seemed like a good idea for older kids smile
our school lunches go like this...
sandwich or wrap or salad
yog
fresh fruit chopped
crackers or dryed fruit
and generlly something else snacky....maybe a jelly pot, home baked slices, muslie bar or delie meats with cheese

my older one has an insulated lunch box that i put frozen ice packs into...but at preschool they have a fridge, so I just use a tupperware lunchbox with seperate sections so it saves on cling wraps and containers.
My DD goes to daycare and there is a fridge there...

She has
- Sandwhich
- Youghurt
- Piece of fruit (generally a banana or an apple)
- something snacky like a packet of shapes or a packet of tiny teddies.
My little girl also goes to daycare her lunchbox for tomorrow consists of

Morning tea
A tupperware snack cup with homemade yoghurt
A container of melon balls, apricot and grapes

lunch
A ham and cheese sandwich (the one day a week she eats a sandwich because everyone else does lol)
Feta Stuffed olives

afternoon tea
A piece of homemade sunshine slice
A little packet of rice crackers

Have you heard of "Fridge to go"?
Keeps things cool for up to 8 hours!!!! It has built in ice packs.
I love mine and it does keep things cold for that long.
I got it on line.

whats sunshine slice? Sounds yummy!
whoops just realised someone asked me a question lol

just in case u are still around sunshine slice is

1 cup of desicated coconut
1cup SR flour
1 cup fruit medley
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup milk
1/4 cup pepitas
1/4 cup sunflower seeds

Mix all together and pour into a line square tin and bake for about 40minutes on 180 degrees. its really yummy my kids love it and u can change the recipe how ever u want.

My daughters school doesn't really like muesli bars or homemade sweet treats being included in the lunchboxes. Hommus and carrot sticks are another good option.
