Please someone help me!!! Rss

Dd is 3 and a half months old and fully breastfed, the past week iv noticed she has been wanting more and more milk from me. I thought id try and hand express but hardly anything came out, so i tried putting her on formula but she isnt taking it, shes crying all the time and gags when i try, i have no milk left in me, wat do i do??? Iv never formula fed before, help please, i want my happy girl back..

I know some mite say just keep putting her on the boob but she is always on it, iv tried tablets to increase my supply, i dont want to stop bf but when u see ur child sucking anything because she is so hungry it breaks ur heart, im devastated but im doing wats best for her. Thanks ladies

Also iv tried all different types of bottles and formula even sippy cups, i just need her to take one somehow.
My suggestion is to phone the Plunket helpline and ask for their advice. The more anxious you get, the more baby will get anxious - so perhaps talking to them might help? Call 0800 933 922, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If I was you Id get in touch with a lactation consultant asap rather than trying to figure it out on you're own as you dont want to do anything that'll muck up your supply.

The other advice I can offer (but Im no expert)

Could it be a growth spurt? If so I'd keep offering the breast and you're supply should adjust to her needs after a day or so?

Have you tried a pump to express? I use to pump off an extra feed every morning so on the days I was really busy and my supply felt low I could top up. This also helped when it came to growth spurts as my suppply was already somewhat boosted.

Giving formula will only decrease your supply more. I'm not against FF if thats what you want to do. I have just started using formula for my DDs top up feed at night and the other night I ran out and didnt realise- she was up all night feeding every 2 hours (shes 6 months!) because my supply had adapted to having the formula top up.

Like I said Im no expert that why if I was you I'd get some help asap smile

Best of luck
I agree with the above, if you want to continue to bf her then formula may not be the answer, it will only decrease your suplly further.

Is she crying for more after a feed? Is she still gaining weight? Is she giving you good wet nappies? She may just be getting better at feeding so her feeds are getting shorter, or she may be going through a growth spurt.

I would def just keep offering her as much as you can, try a breast pump (an electric one if you borrow one), and if in Australia you could give the ABA a call. They were great when I had issues.

Good luck.
I dont think itsca growth spurt, she us still doing wet nappies and sleeping ok...
