Possible Egg Allergy? Rss

Hey DS2 is 9 months, when he was six months i gave him homemade custard, he came out in a rash but at the time we didnt think anything of it because we had been using canesten in the washing and he sometimes reacts to it. So a week or so later i gave him some mashed egg yolk and straight away he got red patches around his mouth and then the rash again but worse. I told my doctor and he said to keep giving him egg yolks, but the next time he gave him a tiny amount he broke out again. So i thought i would wait a bit and last week gave him some tinned custed with only 2% egg , he didnt get a rash but he woke up not long after going to bed with bright red ears. Also when i was exclusively breastfeeding everytime i had eggs he would get a bright red bum and scream for hours... but the screaming for hours wasnt that out of the ordinary lol
I just want to hear from others who have been in my situation? I'm scared to keep trying and worried MIl will give him some baking or something and he will react badly!

Hi I would ask GP to refer you to hospital for an allergy test to be done, if it is the eggs its a pretty quick reaction so a bad allergy to them and sounds like he has reacted enough when having the egg to illuminate it being other foods.

That way atleast you will know, I would be careful how much you give him in the meantime. If he has it in baking say a cake he might not react to it as much.

My boss a few years ago and my father in law both cant eat eggs themselves but if it is in a cake or something like that then they are ok with it.
DS used to be like what you are describing. My doctor didn't want to do a allergy test as he said it was more likely an intolerance. So every few weeks I would retry the egg, in an omlette or baking. Eventually he could have more than 1 mouthful, but it wasn't until he was about 14-15mths that he finally could eat egg without me having to watch how much. My doctor said it is quite common with eggs, some citris fruits, dairy and a variety of other foods to have intolerences that their bodies eventually accept.

Inregards to MIL - I used to write down - NO EGGS, NO MUSHROOM, LIMIT DAIRY. I would put this on top of his bottle bag on the bench and just say to her "here is a list of foods his body is not ready for yet."
My DD has an intolerance to egg. She was allergy tested at around 15 months. She would break out in a hive type rash around her month and sometimes behind her knees and in the elbow creases.

I had a feeling that it was the egg that was doing it, so avoided giving her egg for a while and she was tested formally. Allergy testing so young is hard as they need to do pin pricks in the skin to do it. I don't think my eating eggs affected her when I was breast feeding, and I will allow her to have a small piece of cake or something that would have small amounts of eggs and it doesn't seem to affect her much (she might get the odd spot). But I would never give her an omlette or a pavlova or anything.

My Mum wasn't really understanding the whole intolerance thing, but I was given some information sheets by the allergist and she read them and is better. She probably still thinks I am a bit nutty about not giving DD eggs. But she respects my wishes and understands that it is a medical reason it.
