too early to start solids??? Rss

My DD2 is almost 5 months and lately seems to always be hungry at bedtime after she has had a BF.

She use to be happy to go down to bed at 730 but now she wont settle until she has had an extra feed.

I've tried sqeezing in an extra BF during the day but she's not interested. Ive thought about topping her up with a bottle after her final feed (using either expressed milk or formula) breastmilk being my first choice but dont think I have the time to express every day.

My DD1 started solids when she was 4 and a half months old but i was hoping to put it off this time until closer to six months.

Is it too early to start solids? I know with DD1 I was always eager to move on to the next step. Or should I just try the formula top up?? You'd think i'd know what to do being she is my second baby but I keep doubting myself!!!

Any advice would be much appreciated thanks smile
She may be stimulating more milk production. Often if they start feeding more it means they need our bodies to make more milk... I would give her a few days and see if it works itself out.
I personally don't think it's too young. I would try a small amount per day and see how she goes
I was thinking exactly the same as Dansally - could it be a growth spurt?

Or maybe it is time for solids - every baby is different and there are few hard and fast rules I am learning! I would go see my GP or plunket nurse before starting solids this early smile
Maybe it is time to start. You could start nice and slow, a bit of farex mixed with breast milk...Good luck!
I had the same problem with my little girl and she wasnt even 4 months so I waited as long as I could (4 months lol) and started her on solids and it made her lots more happier she would sleep more and be happier through the day.

I don't think 5 months is too early it depends on the baby im sure most mums would say 4 months was way to early but I didnt really have a choice if they want it they want I dont think it does any harm only if the baby is not ready and you push solids before 6 months...

I tryed to take it slow but she just went so well and kept wanting more.
Ds was on farex at 16 weeks blink he was a big bubba, my doctor told me to start giving farex to him. He was so much more happier once he started smile
Start out small and work the amount up. Best of luck
We put DD on to solids at 16 weeks, She would scream constantly so my GP advised us to start early... We only feed her Raffertys Garden because they are totally natural & she loves it.
Before you try solids I just wanted to mention that around that age babies have a growth spurt so your DD is more than likely trying to increase your supply.

Babies commonly cluster feed at night. My DS would feed 3 or 4 times in the evening after a 4-5 hour dry patch in the early afternoon. This is normal. If you can hold out a couple of days and see how she goes you might find it settles down.
Thanks everyone!

I've been persevering for about a week now so I think she probably is ready.

I guess deep down I dont want to start because she seems to have grown up way too fast sad and I want her to stay my baby forever laugh

Might just try a little Farex with breastmilk tonigh and see how we go smile
