Day care meals-help
Hi, I am starting my 7 mth old daughter at a childcare centre and need to provide her lunch. I would prefer lunch was provided, but this is the only centre that will meet our booking requirements. Does anyone have any good ideas as to what to send for lunch? I'd prefer she had a hot lunch.
Thanks.
Thanks.
my little one is older but has just started daycare too. i would just send leftovers from your dinner if ur wanting her to have a hot lunch

Quiche
Tuna Mornay
bubble and squeak (leftover roast vegies and meat chopped up and sauteed)

My son started childcare at 7 1/2 months. They have just started providing meals through an organic company (the food is awesome). I like to know that he was eating good food so to begin with I would send him with things like:
stewed pears, apples, mashed banana
yoghurt, custard
mashed pumpkin, potatoe, broccoli, carrot etc
rusk
arrowroot biscuits
farex
When he got a little older I used to make a stew in the slow cooker with all kinds of veges pumpkin, potatoe, sweet pot, broccoli, peas, corn, tomatoes, zuchinni, garlic, water, herbs, beef or chicken pieces. I would cook it all day so it was mush & then pureed it. Lots of vitamins & nutrients in it. He really loved it & it freezed well in ice cube trays. I used to send that as his lunch or dinner. Kids don't mind having the same food each day when they are little. Also alternated with tuna mornay, pumkin & spinach rissotto, scrambled egg, baked beans or spaghetti, weetbix, mini muffins, zuhchinni slice, salmon & potatoe patties, ham & cheese wraps or "salad" - cheese cubes, cucumber, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoe, ham/cheerio etc. He doesn't really like his salad anymore now that he is 2. Lol!
I have never fed my son bought or fast foods even though I work full time. I make a batch of one or two dinner foods & freeze them for childcare. Not ideal but it is what we have to do in our situation. At least he is getting good food for dinner at childcare.
Hope this helps!

Can u send the same things you make at home? I've always made dds food so I would make a batch of something and freeze it into ice cubes then store in a labeled zip lock bag. It should keep for one to two months. So u could make mashed or pureed vege (however u like it) then it will b easy to wack a few cubes into a container for day care. If they keep it in the fridge it will defrost by lunch then can be heated. Works for fruit and any other meal too. I made stews and casseroles. And things for dd even pasta bake was good.
Thanks,
we are doing BLW so she eats pretty much everything- no purees here!
I just don't want to send only "finger food". Would prefer a "hot" meal!
Thanks for your ideas- I like the stews and slow cooker ideas.
