Silent Reflux Rss

Sorry need to vent have a 3 yr old, 21 month old and soon to be 6 week old and lucky me all three bubs have had silent reflux. So far bubs number 3 had been great up until week 3, thats when silent reflux kicked in. Bubs wont sleep much during the day, will sleep all night from about 11 until 4.00 am. I can see that she is trying to be good but she is in so much pain with the reflux and tummy upset. Its heart breaking.

Last week GP put her on Zantac and I am not noticing a change as yet she is still really irritable, I have been told Zantac takes about 7-10 days to kick in I am breast feeding so I have tried eliminating trigger foods to help her but with no luck.

I just can't believe that I am going through this all again!!!!! To those of you who have the good eat and sleep bubs you don't know how lucky you are. I am about ready to scream out of frustration.

If u are reading this sorry I just needed to vent and to let others out there who are going through silent reflux, or refluxy bubs at the moment know that they are not alone. The good news is that they expect bubs to grow out of it by 3to 6 months - not sure how I will cope sad sad
Let me just start by saying WOW, you must be one busy Mum. My last DS had silent reflux and I found the Zantac didn't work. He was put on Losec and after a couple of days, he was really great. He was on it until he was nearly 6 months. My Dr recommended I start solids at 4 months as I was exclusively BFing and starting solids at this age can help the reflux. The other option is to put her on Novolac Reflux formula, but it's entirely up to you. I didn't have a choice but to BF as DS3 couldn't take a bottle, but given the option I probably would have comp fed at night.

Good luck. smile
I tried Zantac for my bub as well, and did nothing, but as soon as I used losec it worked straight away! before that she would wake at night crying and as soon as she was upright she was fine, and was also a big vomiter, It was hard to take her anywhere because she would vomit over everything, the losec has taken control of that too. we are much happier. She is 6 months old and I got told she should grow out of it when she starts sitting up! good luck!
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Not sure what is working for bubs whether it is Zantac, NAN AR 30 ml after each feed or essential oil but she is settled again. Today is day 7 of Zantac taken twice a day, bubs was still difficult to settle this morning, but at 11 am breastfeed gave her 30 ml of NAN AR after feed and she settled well. Did the same after the next two feeds and I have happy baby today. Usually she doesn't leave me alone all day and in the evenings comfort feeds from about 3 pm until 10.30pm.

Thanks for your suggestions I will keep doing what I am doing and if tomorrow things are back to unhappy baby then I might look into Losec.

How long did you persist with Zantac before you decided it wasn't working for your LO?
I really feel for you! Your superwoman in my eyes having 3 kids & one having silent reflux ATM.
my son had silent reflux... my MIL actually noticed it. So for a quick fix we used to give him a Ml of mylanta for when the pain was horrid at the time for him... He was then prescribed LOSEC which was great. But even him having the losec I would also mix up Karicare thickner & water into a thick paste & syringe it to him before each bottle.
That worked wonders! Was a pain in the ass though! But it helped & didn't have to start him on solids till he was 6mo.
I'm glad the pain is gone now him being 9mo but I'm pregnant and due in next couple of months and I'm hoping oh so hoping she doesn't have it! But if she does.. least I know what to do now!
Oh I so feel your pain.

A friend picked that my bub had silent reflux at 2 weeks of age but he wasn't 'officially' diagnosed until 10 weeks. It nearly killed all of us I think! He was put on Zantac as well as Mylanta under the supervision of a peadiatrician. The dosage was changed a few times and then he was put on Nexium (which is apparently a newer version of Losec. The Nexium seemed to upset his belly so we had to play around with the Zantac until we found the right dose. There were still some bad days which was tough on all of us. Pead recommended we start solids at 4 months but I didn't start him until 5 months and unfortunately didn't seem to help my LO anyway. He got a little better once he was able to sit up by himself and finally grew out of it and we weaned him off all meds at around 8 months. Good luck and know that you are not alone and it will get better. I highly recommend a bouncer or a Bumbo once they are old enough to try to keep them upright as much as possible when awake. (obviously don't leave them in it for hours but I'm sure you get my point!)
Thanks for your suggestions I think I am needing to up the dose of Zantac, I am going back to GP to discuss what else I should be doing ie food exclusions, etc.
