Teething and refusing food Rss

My gorgeous 6 month son has had 2 bottom teeth since 5 months and now the top set are on their way out.
He has become very upset at meal times and refuses everything I offer. The only way to get anything in atm is to trick him into it by offering his water cup and doing a sly manouver with the spoon!, - which he usually spits out or screams and cries. He used to love his food 5 days ago!
After 10 mins I take him out of the highchair and he settles down, and goes back to his cheerful self!
Any ideas???
I guess it can't last forever!?!
it's common for them to refuse foods. at 6 months I'm assuming he's still on pureed, but if not, then I'd puree everything to smooth or I'd give cold food like yoghurt. no child ever starved themselves to death! whenever my kids did this my mother would say "they know if they are hungry or not, don't force it, doesn't matter if he/she doesn't eat, as long as they drink". today it's this...soon enough this will pass and it will be another issue plaguing you. just try to stay calm, don't let it worry you and perhaps feed him on your lap a few times to offer comfort. sometimes you take a few steps forward and then a few back. maybe the food you were offering was a bit lumpier and now it's too sore so take a few steps back and then progress when he's less fussy.

hope that helps.

I puree everything up just so it slides down and if he's super grumpy will feed him on my lap not in the high chair that usually helps us.
Hi smile My little 10 month old refuses food also when each of his teeth are coming in for a few days. He now has 6 teeth and has 2 more coming in at the moment. I offer the food as usual but if he gets upset I take him out of his chair and try feeding on my lap. If that doesn't work and he's still not interested I don't worry I just offer more BF. Usually it only lasts a few days and then he's back to his normal self. I also found when he was around 6 months that when he was teething his mouth was so sore that even the soft plastic spoon was hurting him so I had to feed him using my finger. Mostly he would eat a couple of mouthfuls and I was happy with that.
My DD was very fussy too when her first teeth came through. She went off her food and drank heaps more breastmilk, I guess for the comfort as well. I did the same as Nadz, purees that weren't hard to swallow and didn't need chewing. But she did come through it and was back to eating pretty soon after, so yes, you're right, it doesn't last forever. Hang in there!

BTW after the first set came through, her other teeth coming through haven't bothered her at all.
Thanks everyone for your advice!
He has gotten a little better and eating on my lap definitely helped. The food has been puréed so just trying all his faves but if nothing else he is still drinking heaps at the all you can eat booby buffet!
Also tried one of the net feeding things with frozen banana / pear/ melon in it but not that interested.
Nice to know its normal, a little bit reassuring!
