does anyone know when you can stop sterlilsing bottles and dummys
For the life of me i can not remember when i stopped Sterlilsing bottles for my oldest daughter and google is giving me all different answers..... my youngest is 11 weeks old and some say there is no need to sterlilse bottles im very confused and input would be great
I am not 100% when to stop as I bf but she is too young now, dont stop yet
I stopped once my child was crawling around, by that stage they were sticking anything on the floor into their mouths so no point in Sterlilsing then.
There will be a debate on this subject, like when to start solids on your baby...
There's lots of different time when people say to stop sterilizing. Ive heard you can stop at 6 months, i also heard there's no use in doing it.
But me personally i stopped at 12 months. I always said i'd stop when she was 6 months but it was a thing i just got used too.
Or they also say to stop sterilizing when your baby starts crawling.
To me its a personal opinion.

I use to sterilise all the time, and i wouldnt put the bottles etc in the dishwasher.
Now the steriliser has been put away and the dishwasher is my new friend. Once she started solids i gave up sterilising everything.
But once a month i will gather up all the teats, dummys and small bits and pieces and wash them in some soapy water and sterilise them.

The most recent studies show that there is no need to sterilize bottles or dummies IF they are washed with very hot soapy water and rinsed well.
Most parents sterilize anyway for piece of mind. This can be done by boiling them in a saucepan on a stove, with a microwave sterilizer or using chemical sterilizers.
Most parents will stop sterilizing or do so less frequently by six months. Or when the baby starts solids as the child will be using unsterilized bowls and spoons.
If formula feeding the water still needs to be boiled and cooled in clean containers.
The above is paraphrased from a booklet my midwife gave me. It was produced by the WA. Health department.
I used a microwave sterilizer once or twice a week and every now and then with chemical because I found the bottle started to smell stale.
I sterilised until DD was about 12 mths (like others, she was starting to walk around and EVERYTHING gets a 'taste test') tongue So I figured if licking the carpet or trying to bite the dog's ear didn't make her sick - then I'd be right with just using hot soapy water on her bottles grin
A cousin of mine from QLD told me that they are not told to sterilse up there?!?
I stopped once they were crawling. As PP said, once they are touching the floor etc and them sucking hands whats the point. Hot, soapy water will make things cleaner than that.
I think its more important in areas of poor hygiene etc beyond that newborn period.

I never needed to sterilise bottles really until I started FF a months or so ago and I just wash in hot soapy water immediately after DS finishes.
I have heard repeatedly 6 months. When your baby is putting dust bunnies and bits and pieces from under the couch in their mouth then hot soapy water will be sufficient laugh
