Cows milk Rss

Hi there.

I was just wondering when a baby can be fully on cows milk (instead of formula). My DD is nearly 11 months and she has a little bit of cows milk here and there with her cereal (cold) and she takes it fine and hasn't had any reactions or anything. I just wondered is it ok for her to have her first cows milk bottle at 12 months? Or do you have to transition them into it for a while?

thanks
cow's milk as a drink is only recommended from 12 months. but give or take a few weeks should not hurt. mine went from bf to cow's.
why not go straight to a sippy cup. there's no reason to give cow's in a bottle. she's a big girl now.
we moved over about a week before he turned one, was going to transition him over but tried just giving him a cup of milk and he took it straight away.
Depends if your baby is eating solids. Cows milk is NOT food. Stick to Formula if your baby isn't eating solids.
By one year old, if the child is eating solids and eating other dairy products (for calcium) then he/she doesn't actually need to be drinking milk at all. (of course can have a cup or sippy cup with some if sometimes )
I still give my 14 month old bottles of milk because she's not ready to give them up. She likes her milk bottles BUT, if your baby prefers milk like mine does, then mix the milk with water, so half and half. (this is cows milk)

Yeah DD is a huge eater.- she looooves her food. She has a lot of yoghurt and things like that. We finally got her down to 3 bottles a day (x1 200ml first thing in the morn, then a 150ml at around 2.30pm, then a 170ml at bedtime). She loves her bottles and wont take formula out of her sippy cup. Part of me doesn't want a 3 year old still having a bottle (I'm scared I'll have to wean her down the track) - but the other half says it's easier just giving her milk in her bottle.

Will cows milk be enough nutrition at 12 months though? Or does she still have to have formula up until a certain age??

provided she has a good range of solids cows milk should be fine on its on once she reaches 12months. We've got DS on one glass of cows milk just before bed and the rest are water, to wean him down off the formula we replaced it with a snack or meal, so he was having a bottle at 7am,2pm 7pm, we still sometimes give him the morning one depending on what time he wakes but he usually only has a few sips, so we give him more breakie, then instead of afternoon bottle he has afternoon snack.

Cows milk will only give the child calcium which is for healthy bones and teeth. That alone WILL NOT keep a child alive.
Do not stop the formula if the child is not eating breakfast lunch and dinner and preferably snacking in between.
Formula has all beneficial additives that replace food till a certain age. Cows milk DOES NOT do this.
There is no certain age you have to give formula to, it REALLY all comes down to if the baby is eating FOOD.
If the baby is not eating full solids, keep giving formula in between solid feeds. That way the baby doesn't starve. When you've put the baby fully on to solids, eating proper meals a day then cut the formula out. The more solids you give the baby, the less bottles it will need.
As for worrying about a three year ok'd with a bottle, don't stress too much about that now. If your baby does not want cups or sippy cups then she's just not ready yet. My baby isn't. As a child gets older, and becomes more understanding of things then remove the bottle can be easier because they're more persuadable. (generally) I personally don't see the point of removing a bottle from a child and distress it when its only a baby when that child is still fully attached to the bottle.
