Circumcision - What clinic is the best to use Rss

I'm due to have my baby in the next few days. We are getting him circumcised but not sure which clinic to use. We have found 2 clinics in Melbourne on is Dr Goldman who uses a Mogen Clamp and the other is Circumwise P/L which use the plastibell method. Just wondering if anyone out there has used either of these Practices. Any information would be great.
Plasti bell (never heard of the other one). Took about 15 mins to do and ds didn't mind at all. Didn't seem to have any discomfort afterwards. If the next bub is a boy we will be going the same way.

:wub:i live in darwin and will be going to a dr chris kirby in adelaide.
he does them upto six weeks of age plasti bell method and then from 12 months under general anaesthetic.
upto six weeks will cost $440 - $108 approximate medicare rebate (as advised by receptionist). From 12mths private health insurance will cover apart from his fee of about $200.

Found one in melbourne that was about $330 and less rebate - done upto 3months of age. plasti bell method

Adelaide is cheaper in flights and I have private health insurance, but this doc came highly recommended. By the time we heard of him through word of mouth, bub was 6weeks of age.
when a couple had probs with their son, they called dr kirby on his mobile and he spoke to the emergency drs and told them exactly how to treat him
I hadn't heard of the Mongen clamp so just had a look to see what it involves. Pretty frightening stuff, more so than other methods of circ I've seen or heard described. You haven't even had your babe yet why the rush? If you wait until he's a little older he can have anesthetic, or even better wait until he's older and ask him how he feels about having part of his penis removed. You've obviously done some research into the two clinics that offer these methods, but have you researched the option/pros/cons of not getting him circ'd at all?

Hi Tracey,

I can't help with clinics cause I'm in QLD but method wise I'd go with the plastibell. I had this done for my son with no problems and he barely made a sound. He cried more when they unwrapped his blanket! I'm sure you've done your research and made a decision that's right for your child just like I did. People have no right to judge you on your decision. Each decision circ or not has its own positives and negatives.Good luck and I hope you find a clinic soon smile

Just read up on the mogan clamp and will def be avoiding that. Sounds nasty and very outdated. My advice would be to go with the plasti bell.
Ruby Gloom she didn't ask for opinions on circumcision just info on methods.

Thanks everyone for your help. We will go with Plastibell. Why I'm enquiring about it now is that they don't do the proceedure in Tassie unless its a medical condition. As my husband is done we would like our son done sooner rather than later. smile
I had my son circumised with Dr Goldman and it was a fantastic clinic. It took about 5 mins, he was not crying at all when he was returned to me. They use anastheatic and he also did not have any discomfort afterwards and was his normal happy personality, even overnight. There after care was really good too.
dr kirby in adelaide came highly reccommended to us also, and we were very pleased with the level care he gave to our son and us when we went to him...great doctor..in and out,no problems!

There is someone in Launceston that does it I have a friend that had her son done there and was very happy with it, I can get the details for you if you like?

That would be great. I knew of a Dr in Launceston but she only does it when they are 6 months of age and only for religion or medical reasons.

That would be the same Dr then it was a female and they couldn't have him done before 6 months but it didn't have to be for medical reason's or religion but it was 6y ago when they had their son done!

Thanks for the info though. I have found that everything here in Tassie has change in the last few years.
