MCN Recomendations Rss

Hi All,
I'm a newbie and was after some advice on the best MCN that you recommend. Any advice would be appreciated as I come from the old school Kite nappies.
Cheers,
Manda smile
I find them all much of a muchness. I have a mixture of pea pods, dreambaby, and those cheapies form the internet and I find them as good as any. The ebay seller I often buy from is called "littleripple" and have found those nappies cheap and awesome. Don't get sucked in by the super expensive brands!

Hi smile

I haven't had my bub yet but did a LOT of research on MCN's as I wanted something that was easy to use - both for hubby & I - but also easy to wash etc. I have bought Cushie Tushies and have a few friends who swear by them... no soaking, easy to look after etc. There website is www.cushietushies.com.au but you can also pick them up cheap (from Cushie Tushies) on eBay or online through stores which stock them.

Good Luck x

Hiya,

I'm a MCN fan! I have mostly Tots Bots, which are great, but also have Mini Lalas and Designer Bums that I love as well. They are all All In Ones and One Size Fits Most. The Tots Bots kind of fold in on themselves - basically if you picture a pair of undies with a really long gusset bit? It folds up and goes into a little pocket. The Mini Lala and Designer Bums are a pocket style, where you have 2 separate pads that pull out as separate pieces.

I also have a baby beehinds and an Itti Bitti Tutto - They're a bit chunkier (my daughter is 5 and a bit months and still hasn't cracked 6kg, so petite) and they have press studs, the ones I mentioned above all have velcro which gives you more flexibility to tighten them up. They all have press studs on the front which allow you to adjust them as your bub grows too.

If you're interested in MCNs, you should register for the great Cloth Nappy Hunt - it's on at the moment and you'll definitely catch up on all the styles and brands and stuff! Most of the participating stores have discounts with the nappy hunt code you get when you register. They're also running advice forums too.

There are some awesome designs around out there - I got my daughter a VERY cool Very Hungry Caterpillar print one last week!!!
I also got some breast pads made from the same materials as the nappies are, loving them, too!
I like the cheapies from littleripple on ebay as well. I find they leak less and fit better than my $30+ nappies and you can get them for about $5 each depending on how many you buy.

I also love the prints from Designer Bums but find they only last about an hour or 2 on my big wee-er before they're leaking. I'm looking forward to seeing my little guy crawling around in his designer bums come Summer.

I bought some chinese cheapies on ebay too which work well but the patterns washed off on the first wash lol.

Good luck I found it very daunting buying my first MCN's, there's so many options.

You're right, it IS daunting! I was always interested but had absolutely no idea about different types of nappies. We had a girl from the council's Green Team come to our Mothers Group and go over all the options. She told us the local nappy lady's business and she has market stalls when she can. I just waited and took my daughter along and said "What's the best one?" and went with what she said. Now we know each other I can ask her for recommendations.
Most of the nappy businesses here are small WAHM ones, and most will only stock ethically produced stuff, if that's important to you. Worth mentioning. smile
I am also very interested in MCNs but get very overwhelmed when i do any research on them. There are so many brands and ranges and prices.

Also a question i have is do u change the whole nappy everytime or is there just an inner layer that u change and keep the outer??

I change the whole lot everytime.
I have the bumgenious and Chinese cheapie pocket nappies. Both good. I just stuff two inserts in if I want to get more absorption. The bumgenious brand have a new FLIP system that requires the insert only to be changed every time, not the whole thing, the PUL outer cover does not require changing every time. I also got these from a US site bumritediapers.com cheaper, even with shipping. Or the Chinese ones are only 6 bucks each.

There are different types - some have a nappy and a wrap separate (I don't have any of these) and then you have the all in one/all in two styles.

They have a plastic coated material and then the lining is microfibre, or bamboo, cotton. You can also get flushable liners and booster pads to beef them up too.

Seriously, if you can find someone local that sells them, go and see them and see which ones appeal the most to you.
I agree with some of the others, Little Ripple are great and cheap and fantastic customer service! They are the same as the chinese nappies (in fact I think they import them) but the customer service makes the difference. I have upgraded to bamboo inserts though (chinese from ebay) because I find they absorb more for their size (less bulky) - so I use one microfibre insert (comes with nappy) and one bamboo and it lasts for hours smile
