Washing bibs Rss

Hey all,

I've had to change the washing detergent for the bubs clothes because she has eczema so I now use a non soap, environmentally friendly one. It's not cheap so I only wash her stuff in it and because of that I'm having to wait to get enough for a load. Some of the bibs now have a small mouldy section which won't go away after washing. I can't soak them in anything like bleach or nappy san because of the eczema. Should I just throw these away????

Also, I find that even if I wash the bibs straight away they still have a milky smell to them which they didn't have when I used my old detergent (Purity - for sensitive skin). The new detergent is called Enviroclean, and I add a couple of drops of tea tree oil for disinfecting.

Any ideas how I can get these bibs squeeky clean and smelling nice like they used to?? Any other mums with eczema prone babies use anything different???

Thanks for your help,

Could you soak and wash first in the normal washing products, then do another wash in the soap free products? Might be a bit of a long shot...

Hi there

My daughter has had really sensitive skin since she was a baby. Anyway when she was a couple of months old the clinic nurse suggested I wash her clothes separately, but she said Napisan is fine to use as it is soap free, actually it's what she recommended for washing her clothes in. You just have to make sure you use the plain one as it doesn't have enzymes in it which can affect baby's skin. Obviously if you have tried napisan and your baby reacts to it you wouldn't use it. But I just thought I'd suggest it in case you hadn't tried it as I've been told it's safe. Maybe it's worth a try with the bibs - they don't have much contact with skin - and make sure you rinse them really well, then wash them with the special detergent. Hope this helps.

I know it may sound silly - but how about just rinsing them in water after you have used them - to wash most of the food off, then just leave hanging over the laundry sick till you have a load. Or just have a bucket of water in the laundry sink, and after use of each bid, chuck the bib in the bucket of water, that way it won't go mouldy. And as someone else wrote - the sun will get rid of most of the stains on bibs - you can be amazed sometimes - -especially bad one is banana (stains terribly) ! Probably will do good for the smell as well. Just some suggestions for ya !
