My baby girl is nearly 11 months old, and all of a sudden she is getting really stroppy when its change time. She has never liked getting dressed, but I have never had a problem with changing her bum. All of a sudden she is soooo upset and wriggley, and wont let me change her, its a real struggle.

Is it something that babies just go through?

Sounds pretty normal, at least in my experience,lol. You could try giving your DD something to distract her during nappy change time like a toy (I found little bath squirt toys were great because they were a good size). I also used little cardboard books or bath books at change time. Singing children's songs and nursey rhymes is another method I used to keep bub entertained during the whole process.

I also learnt how to change bub when they were standing up too,lol. Nappy pants are good for upright changes too!

Oh yes. DS still has his moments, now being 2 1/4. Starting to toilet train too, which is a whole different experience.

He wriggles and twists, almost throws himself off the change table before I have a chance to strap him into it, rolls over & sticks his bum in the air, you name it. Before all that, he used to run away & chuck himself on the floor in a hissy fit so it was difficult to pick him up to get to the change table. Thankfully, now he tells us when he needs a change & goes to his room.

Isn't it frustrating? I'm always worried he will have an accident & the wall or me will wear it.

And they get new found strength from somewhere too!

Perfect solution: try giving her a sticker on the back of her hand. Only do it for change time and by the time she's worked out how to get it off her hand and realize its sticky etc, nappy change time will be over! Worked for me 4 times over!

My 9 month old daughters being doing the same thing, full fledged tantrums that come from nowhere! Its being putting me off nappy changes, changing and bath time as she is going through the really loud protest scream which literally hurts my head (best part of being a solo parent lol). Apparently it is just a phase that they go through but just think its better to have a stubborn/determined child that can be moulded then a laid back/lazy child lol lets just hope it gets easier for us to deal with smile

My 16th month old is the same. We us nappy pants during the day now because it was getting just too had with nappies. Distracting her didnt work, I tried everything. We only use a nappy at night, and she is laying down drinking her bottle when I put it on her so she doesnt complain then. It is just a stage they go through, but having said that, we have been doing this for months now, so not sure how long it lasts? Good luck though, 'cos I know how you feel

You ladies have all just encouraged me sooooooooooooooo much. I remember when Michele was just about 13 months old I had to give up on the change table. We would get down on the floor and wrestle every nappy change time. I hated changing her. She did grow out of it but it seemed to take for ages. Michele is now 6 and what a lovely kid she is now.
Our second born, Cathy, was completely different.
And now we have Timothy. Thanks ladies. I do like the sticker on the back of the hamd trick.

my solution: giving her a container of sudocrem, just sample one to fit her, of cause, it's empty, and then she'll try to open it, and close it, and open it again...nappy change time will be over! Only do it for change time. tongue

i feel your pain my son is 19 months and nearly every time i change him he packs the biggest tantrum until ill in the end trying to hold him down and fight him Ive tried giving him toys etc to distract him but doesn't always work. but yet hes ok for other people to change him most the time. i dont no why hes like it but it is very tiring i no how u feel lets just hope this passes.... Soon!
