DD is 4 months old now. I love her too bits, she has the most gorgeous smile...

She has no middle switch. What I mean by this is she is either really happy or crying....Sometimes I dont know why she is crying, she can be clean, fed and just woken up from a feed but still wants to have a whinge.

So what was your 4 month olds temprement like? Did your bub behave like this too?

The only thing I find frustrating about it is the comments I get from people - oh she is tired, hungry etc...but she is not, its just her!!!

I still love her tho she is such a cutie

DD1 - Cried constantly and even at almost 3 is still a cheeky, whingy child but she's very cute so it is okay. She was 8 weeks prem and had reflux though...

DD2 - Is an angel, she very rarely cries and is generally a very happy little bub.

I definitely agree the temperament of the child is the main factor as I don't feel i've done anything terribly different this time but DD2 sleeps much better and generally is happier. I got that oh she must be hungry etc... every time I went out with DD1.

Thanks Tash, I just worry that maybe something is wrong with her that I cant work out...

I think at the moment I am just more conscious of it, as whilst we are up here there is another student staying with us, and whilst he is a friiend I dont want him to get annoyed with her crying at all.

there is a growth spurt around 4 months, maybe being irritable is just her way of dealing with it?

DS was a quiet baby for ages, then when he went thru the 4 month growth spurt he started having his off days, but then would go back to being happy again.

we have taken him to chiro ever since he was 11 weeks old, and when he was younger i would find that just after having his chiro adjustment he would be i a much better mood for up to a week or sometimes more.

My DS is much the same.. He has never slept much during the day just naps but he's either happy and smiley or he's whinging..

Erin is now 18mths old and has improved on what she was, but is still me Baby Sook!

From the day she was born she was an irritable little thing that had very little happy time. She was about 12 weeks old before we got a real smile out of her! She hated tummy time, she fought being fed, we tried reflux medication but it did nothing, she was just a miserable little thing. She was absolutely tragic! During this period, I loved her but I definitely didn't like her, she was on the verge of driving me round the twist.

Fast forward to now, she still definitely has her moments, but for the most part she is turning into a cheeky, charming, affectionate little girl - though she is still a mega whinger.

Whereas DS was the most layed back, easy going little thing ever. He's still fairly easy going but has a huge stubborn streak.

I do think that a baby's/child's personality really shows thru, even if they are so young.

My youngest DD sounds like your DD, no shades of grey with her, she's either really happy, or very unhappy! and she is almost 3, it does get easier as they grow and I have learnt to love that about her.

My other 2 are more layed back and seem to want to please me. i agree that they're born with their temperment.

OMG you have perfectly described my daughter!!!!! Though she smiled at a few days old, i thought it was wind but my doctor swears and declares she was smiling lol

DS1 was always a pretty laid back bubba. Always smiley and happy and would go to anybody and stay anywhere. Loads of smiles and was happy to play by himself.

DS2 is much the same but I actually think he is a bit more placid. He has his moments but its usually being tired, hungry or a pooey nappy! He very quiet and will sit back for ages and watch DS1 jumping around the lounge room smile

We have been very blessed with happy babys that have had no real problems.

Dont worry about the comments you get. Everybody thinks they're an expert smile

Miss E is a happy little soul (as my Mum likes to call her), very smiley and pretty happy to go with the flow. She's always been a very sleepy baby too which is great! She's very rarely upset and it's almost never anything a cuddle can't fix.
I feel very lucky with this one and am fully expecting to be punished next time!lol
She's 5 months old today.

DS1 was a great baby always happy- it was very RARE to see him cry, and when he did there was ALWAYS a reason that was easily fixed. He went with the flow ahh he was wonderful lol

DS2 on the other hand has a temper like you could not imagine lol and he is so very stubborn. He is a very happy baby but do something he doesn't like or want at that time and you'll hear about it lol He is very demanding knows what he wants when he wants it and if you don't get it in time it can take a while to stop him from screaming lol. He often has had times where he is just crying for no reason and I have exhausted all options so I've learnt (and very quickly) that that is just what he is like and I don't tend to stress when I can't settle him straight away. He is just over 5months and has been this way since the moment he was born lol

Hi all, my Baby is 4 months old and the last week or so (although always been whingy but not as much as the last week) is NOT happy with anything but standing or being driven around in his stroller!! He cannot lie down by himself at all and gets bored and starts whinging with pretty much everything after what seems like 1 minute!! always wants attention and to be entertained or to be outside! My arms and back ache cos i hold him soo much!

I'm thinking it is me, and maybe i always in the early days went to him everytime he whimpered? been trying the last couple of days to get him used to be alone in a room with toys etc but to no avail! all i hear is whinging and if i dont go to him he starts to cry!!??

Hoping it is a growth spurt like some suggestions above, but i am still going to buy a jolly jumper and see if that will at least help him!

glad that i am not alone and other bubs are similar i was starting to think maybe something seriously wrong with him!

At 4 months my DS was generally placid when happy, but quite demanding when not.......he was very clingy & needed someone near him most of the time.......he's my difficult baby, though I love him to pieces & wouldn't change him for the world!! Now at 20months, he's exactly the same!! Placid & more like his daddy when happy, then more like me when he's not! LOL! That's now when the demanding, clinginess & tempers come out!! grin I'm hoping I get an "easier" one second time round!! Rachel's mummy - I think your DD is very normal smile

Hi Rachels mummy, my little boy is 2 months old and also has no middle as you described. He is either happy and smilimg or screaming his head off and it can change in just one second. His also extremely demanding when he has decided he is hungry he wont start with a grunt its always full blown screaming until he gets it. I at times felt like the mother mum when she said she loves her baby but didnt like her baby.
I totally understand about the coments, i get the same too, people are like you need to feed him, he probably has a pooi nappy, but i know his just whinging it, dont worry your not alone
