The sleep method was very useful untill she learned to open the doors all by herself!

Hi Maree
I have a 2yr old who is refusing to sleep in her own bed instead prefering to go to sleep on the couch. We have always had the same night time routine and did find the teaching to sleep method very useful untill that is she learned to open the doors all by herself!!! also am having problems with her staying in her bed instead she sneaks in with me and her poor father IS left to sleep on the couch. i have just started putting her fold out couch next to my bed and when she does come in getting her to sleep there instead. I am wondering what else i could be doing and any tips would be extremely appreciated.

Answer: Hi Elzabeth,
Because she goes to sleep on the couch and you are no doubt transfering her she wakes in a different place then she can`t resettle without you there. Poor father is right he deserves a wife and half a bed also! If you continue to let her come in and sleep on the fold out bed this will stay the regular routine. If you want to change things you will need to take back control and have her settle awake into her bed at night so when she wakes on her light sleep (as we all do ) she can look around and is exactly where she went to sleep and resettles herself back to sleep. I hope this helps.

Cheers, Maree
