After an hour she wakes crying so I have to go back and lie with her again

hi Maree,
i have 5 kids the problem is with my 21 month old she has sleeped with her father and i from the day she was born i just found it easy to breast feed her in bed for 16 months,we have tryed putting her in the cot but she gets to destressed so we have put her in her own bed but i have to lye down with her for her to go to sleep.she will stay there for about an hour then wakes crying so you have to go back and lie with her again,this happens about 6 times a night i dont get to much sleep at all,is there any thing that you could tell me that would help get her to sleep and stay asleep be herself.thanks belinda

Answer: Hi Belinda,
Imagine you went to bed and woke up in the bath! you`d get a fright and want to go back to your bed again. When your daughter falls asleep with you and wakes up and you`re not there she can`t go back to sleep without you. She needs to fall asleep in her bed and on her own so when she wakes on her light sleep (as we all do) she can look around is exactly how she went to sleep and goes back to sleep again. I hope this helps.
