Hi Maree
My question is;
Should my daughter who is 18ths old be sleeping through the night by now? She wakes about 2am for a milk bottle and nappy change. I know all babies have their own schedules and patterns. She will sometimes sleep 3 hours through the day and most of the time she only sleeps for about 35 minutes, and will do these about twice a day. Aislynn has only ever sleep through the night from about 7.30pm to 6am about five times in total. Can you suggest any tips as they would bemuchly appreciated.
Thanks For Youe time,
Kerenza
A baby should be able to sleep 7pm to 7am without an overnight feed from about 6 months on. It sounds like she has created a habit of wanting this 2am bottle and if you want to change things you will need to stop offering the bottle during the night.
The trick is you need to make sure she goes to bed awake initially at night and not falling asleep with a bottle as she will wake and look for this comfort to return to sleep again. You may want to try our settling techniques to get her to sleep initially and use them to resettle her instead of offering the bottle.
You can find details for the It`s Time To Sleep settling program on the website or from www.itstimetosleep.com
Cheers, Maree
