She still wakes every 3 hours throughout the night

Hi Maree,
I have a 6 month old (my 2nd child) and she still wakes every 3 hours throughout the night. She is enjoying her solids, so I know she is not hungry. If I don`t feed her when she wakes, it can take an hour or so to get her back to sleep. If I breastfeed her, she feeds for about 15 minutes then goes back to sleep. Otherwise, she has a very good sleeping pattern. Throughout the day, I put her in the cot when she is tired and she falls asleep by herself. Is this just a phase that she will eventually grow out of?

Answer: Hi,
You might expect to still be offering one overnight feed up until about 6 months but waking for a feed every 3 hours sounds like she may be relying on this as a comfort feed now and associates going to sleep with it at night. After a night feed always try to resettle her awake so she is not falling asleep to a feed and looking for this comfort again.

Cheers, Maree
