She frantically cries in her sleep. Not for feed or anything, it seems more like fear

Hello,
My name is Heleina, I am a first time mum.
My baby girl, Arielle, is 7 months old. She is breastfed. I use to put her to sleep in her cot but get up through the night when she cried for a feed, and bring her to feed in my bed. I know this is a big NO NO but I was exhausted and my partner wasn`t and isn`t much help, and we share a room (no other option there)

When Arielle had her needles she would always be extreemly sick and I would keep her in my bed for the days folowing, I guess because she would sleep better and get better faster. Plus I could monitor her and know when she would vomit.

Now her needles are all done, but she wont sleep anywhere but my bed. We get her to sleep and move her to her cot, she wakes up and crys or plays. The only way she goes to sleep is by feeding her or laying beside her.

Another problem is that even when she is in my bed at night and sleeping, she franticly crys in her sleep. Not for feed or anything, it is more of a fear cry. We sometime have to try realy hard to wake her up just so she will stop. There seems to be no wind problems and she isnt hungry, she has done it since she was 3-4 months old. What can it be? And how do I get her away from sleeping in my bed because she has began to crawl off it, I had to buy a monitor and a bed rail!!!

Thank you kindly, Desperate NEW Mum!

Answer: Hi Heleina,
Arielle simply doesn`t know how to sleep without you and the only way you can change that is to teach her to sleep independently. This is hard to do and takes alot of persistence using settling techniques. You really would also need to move her out of your room as it will make it even harder to do. These controlled comforting settling techniques are not for everyone but if you choose to go ahead our program will take you step by step through the techniques.

Cheers, Maree
