My son wakes 3-12 times per night

My 2 year old son has never been a good sleeper, he has never slept thought the night. I am now 5 months pregnant with our 2nd child and wish to move our son into his own room and into his new bed as we need his bed for the next child. My son wakes 3-12 times per night. And will only settle if I get up. What can I do to make him sleep thought the night, stay in his room and let my husband put him to bed? My son is extremely clingy to me, Our normal routine is bath, milk, teeth, bed at the same time every night. This routine is good for us. Please help with a plan of action.I am desperate to get some sleep before the next child.

Answer: Hi,
The key to him sleeping through is to get him to fall asleep on his own and independently to start with. Moving him to his own room is a must for this to work. You have a good routine going and from there you must say good night and leave. Each time he gets up or calls you must let him know it`s time to sleep back to bed and leave. You might do this 100 times in the night but the message will get though eventually. Try and make the new room fun and get him something new that he loves, he can have it so long as he stays in his room but if he gets up you must take it away. It`s really hard but if you want things to change you need to be in control. Keep in mind what you are doing now is also very hard and tiring.
I hope this helps
