Hi Maree
My 8mnth old son Khyus is impossible to settle. I will bath him, feed him solids then breast and play before putting him down at 7.30pm. He will sleep for 2hrs if im lucky then will get up again. This will continue all night. I have tried giving him water and formula when he wakes at night but he will not settle without being breastfeed and then once i put him in his cot the screaming starts. I have tried the controlled crying technique but he has started smashing his head against the cot and always has big lumps on his forehead and bruising on his cheeks. He will scream for upto 1hr before he will give up and fall asleep but this will only last about 15mins and then it all starts up again. I have been trying this since he was 6months. His cot is in our room.
Thanks heaps Leyann
He sounds very strong willed. He will be experiencing 8 month separation anxiety at present and this won`t be helping. Having the cot in your room is also not going to make it easy to implement a settling program. I would consider moving him to his own room as he can sense your presence. You may want to consider getting some one on one support for settling him and your health nurse should be able to put you in contact with a settling centre in your area.
Cheers, Maree
