I tried cutting her feeds back she only has 180 but it doesn`t matter how much she has she still be`s sick
That is great that your daughter’s vomiting doesn’t upset her, although the extra work, and washing (and associated costs) can be a bit of a nightmare all the same. Are you concerned about her vomiting because you think it is excessive, or are you worried for your daughter? Or is it from the extra work?
The first thing I would recommend, as you don’t mention it, is to speak with your doctor about what is going on. Even though reflux is most likely the problem, there are other conditions that can cause vomiting in infants, and its really important your doctor ensures there are no other problems.
Sometimes it can be a result of food sensitivities, and because you are using soy formula, I imagine that you are on that track. I’m sorry to hear you weren’t able to continue breastfeeding, but at least she is happy on soy formula.
If you HAVE been to the doctor and they have diagnosed her with reflux, then you may like to consider thickening the formula or using infant gaviscon (if the doctor recommends it). Thickened feeds can sometimes reduce the amount of vomiting they do, and it may be worth considering. It doesn’t work for all reflux infants, but for some, it works amazingly well. Please don’t do anything unless you have spoken to your doctor though, as it is just so important to make sure you are treating the right condition.
Some infants are also sensitive to soy products as well as cows milk protein, and if the vomiting is particularly troublesome, the doctor may consider prescribing a more specialised formula such as alfare or pepti-junior. It may help, but unfortunately, as with reflux, there are no guarantees.
Sometimes though, it is a matter of trying to manage the vomiting- have you tried to catch the vomit in an ice cream container? It works for some parents, but not others. Feeding her on a cleanable floor, or even outside where any messes are able to be easily washed down may help too. When you go visiting, taking a plastic backed picnic rug might help, and drape all furniture with towels or nappies (and have them on hand as necessary).
If your bub is doing okay despite the vomiting, the doctor may be happy to just wait it out until she grows out of it. I know that can be hard too, but there may not be too many other things you can do, especially as she is doing well herself. Even though that can be really difficult for you, it may just be a matter of time until things improve.
I hope that helps,
Glenda
