My 6 and 1/2 month old son recently had a viral infection up until then we were moving along well with trying different vegies and had a couple of meals with meat included as well (meal times were fun for us both). Once he got sick he went completely off his vegies, the doctor encouraged me to give him smoother things like youghurt, custard and fruit purees and more bottles as his throat was red and sore. Now he is on the improve and I am lucky to get one cube of vegies into him. He gets quite upset and meal times are no fun anymore. He still loves his youghurt etc. I can get him to eat rice cereal in the morning for his breakfast without fuss but every other meal is a battle. What can I do to get him back on his vegies ??
It is really normal that they refuse foods that once caused them a bit of discomfort, probably the lumpy/coarser foods. You could wait a little then retry foods, don’t worry if he refuses them, keep introducing other new foods as well, and then try mixing the foods he can eat including those he has refused, so yoghurt and cereal. Yoghurt and chicken.
It is a matter of time and allowing him to forget the associations he has still quite fresh in his mind. He will come around to most of those lovely foods eventually, but in the meantime, its fine if he says no, just try something else and come back to that food in a few days again.
All the best
Leanne.
