Hi Leanne,
My 13 month old girl will not drink cows or goats milk. I have tried watering it down as she drinks alot of water, warmed and cold. She just pushes it away, yet she will have it on her breakfast cereal and sometimes off a spoon (not often on spoon though). I give her more yoghurt and cheese aswell as breastfeeding her at night. Do you have any tips on how I can get her to drink it?
In fact you are doing everything right. You don’t need to have her drinking cow’s milk or goat’s if she is eating a healthy and balance diet with other calcium-rich foods. We drink only what goes into food in our house, but like you we love yoghurt and cheese, plus tinned boned salmon (crushed up) and other calcium foods. We also use calcium-enriched alternative milks such as oat, rice and soy which if you rotate them offer some great health benefits.
I have a tip sheet on my site on milk and weaning if you would like to download it you will find it half way down this page: www.cadenchealth.com.au/babyandchild.htm
However if you really wanted your little one on milk you really just need to preserver and offer a little often over the day and she will slowly adjust to the taste (it is a very different taste and smell to breastmilk).
Sounds to me as though you are both going great!
All the best
Leanne.
PS. I did a tip sheet on checking a toddlers diet and one on what toddlers should drink the links are below if you wanted to have a squiz:
